About the Ford Focus RS

Vehicle Summary

Fans of the Ford Focus sedan have adored the vehicle’s hatchback body style for many years. When Ford began to see demand for a high-performance version of the Focus hatchback, they delivered with the introduction of the Ford Focus RS in 2016. Equipped with a turbocharged engine and other sporty features, the Ford Focus RS remains a popular option for those in the market for a sleek hatchback with power behind the wheel.

2016 - Present Ford Focus RS Trim Configurations

The Ford Focus RS is still in its first generation of production, as the vehicle was only introduced in 2016. Since then, the Focus RS has not seen much in the way of changes. Specifically, the Ford Focus RS was designed based on the traditional hatchback styling of the original Ford Focus, which comes in various trims and options itself (including the Ford Focus ST, Ford Focus Electric, Ford Focus Active, Ford Focus Titanium, Ford Focus Wagon, Ford Focus Sport, and Ford Focus Hybrid). Its turbocharged engine is also based on that of the Ford Mustang, providing more power behind the wheel than any previous Focus model in existence.

When it comes to the Ford Focus engine, the 2016 Ford Focus RS, 2017 Ford Focus RS and the 2018 Ford Focus RS all come with a standard 2.3-liter, four-cylinder engine at 350 horsepower. Also standard is a manual transmission and all-wheel drive.

In terms of Ford Focus mpg, the 2017 RS gets an estimated 22 mpg combined (19 city and 25 highway), compared to the 2017 Ford Focus ST with 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine at an estimated 25 mpg combined (22 city and 30 highway)1. There aren’t many changes between the 2016, 2017, and 2018 model years. In fact, between 2016 and 2017, the Ford Focus RS remains completely unchanged. For the 2018 model year, however, the Focus RS sees a few changes and upgrades, including a standard navigation system and Recaro front seats. The 2018 Ford Focus RS also gets forged 19-inch wheels and a mechanical front limited-slip differential.

2016 - 2018 Trims and Configurations

Throughout each of its model years, the Ford Focus RS is available in just one trim option. However, there are a couple of add-on packages available, as well as some standalone additions that can be used to customize your ride.

  • RS2 Package - Available across all model years, the RS2 package remains consistent in its offerings each year. Features include heated side mirrors, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and luxurious leather upholstery. This package also includes a six-way powered driver’s seat for added comfort behind the wheel.
  • Winter Tire & Wheel Package - This package is also available across all model years and upgrades the standard tires to winter tires mounted on upgraded 18-inch wheels.
  • Individual add-ons – Some vehicles come with an additional sunroof, 19-inch alloy wheels, and sport tires.

Great car, very comfortable

Great fuel economy, seats are cramped but comfortable. styling is excellent, plenty of power, luxurious interior, high quality materials are used. The focus brings European sophistication to America, and it's a great thing to have. The only problem I've had so far is that the Sony sound system produces a bit of hideous door rattle at high levels of bass.

Ford Focus

This is my 2nd Ford Focus the first I had for 6 years and the only reason I had to replace it was because of a car accident. I bought another one to replace it. I had excellent milage and fantastic performance. For a 4 cylander it has lots of power and very little upkeep. Highly recommend it.

tires are awful

this car would be a great car if the tires were better. the tires are expensive runflat tires but it is very loud when you drive on the interstate i have replaced with brand new tires 2 times in two years. it is good on gas and would be a great run around town car but not interstate
