About the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport

Vehicle Summary

If you're drawn to the sleek design and generous standard equipment found on the Hyundai Santa Fe but prefer something a little more compact, be sure to check out the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. This model is essentially the two-row version of the traditional Santa Fe, offering a roomy cabin with seating for up to five passengers across two rows—plus a spacious cargo area.

Like the larger Santa Fe, the 2017 Santa Fe Sport offers many creature comforts even on its base trim; some of these include Bluetooth® connectivity, a convenient rearview camera, and darkened rear privacy glass for your passengers. And while the base trim comes standard with a 2.4L four-cylinder engine, other trims are outfitted with a turbocharged engine for a spirited ride. And if you need all-wheel drive, be sure to look for a used 2017 Santa Fe Sport model with this available feature, as it was offered on both engines for additional traction.

Generation Overview

The Hyundai Santa Fe Sport launched its first generation for the 2013 model year and was produced through 2018; this compact crossover SUV was offered as a smaller, two-row version of the Hyundai Santa Fe. Because of its more compact size (it is 8.5 inches shorter than its three-row sibling), the Santa Fe Sport offers great handling and easy maneuverability while also retaining many of the same indulgent features.

By the Santa Fe Sport's 2017 model year, a design refresh introduced an upgraded dashboard and additional driver-assistance features.

2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport Engine Options

A 2.4L four-cylinder engine at 185 hp is standard on the 2017 Santa Fe Sport base trim, as is front-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is optional if you're looking for a crossover with more utility and traction.

The 2.0T and 2.0T Ultimate trims receive a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine at 240 hp; this engine is also available with either front- or all-wheel drive, although a six-speed automatic transmission remains standard.

2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport Interior

While not quite as spacious as the three-row Santa Fe, the 2017 Santa Fe Sport offers plenty of room for a compact crossover. Behind the rear row, you'll find 35.4 cubic feet of cargo space, which can be extended to a full 71 cubic feet by folding down the rear seats. And on models with the available hands-free liftgate, loading and unloading the large cargo area is a breeze.

Reviews for 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport

Overall Rating

4.8 out of 5 (20 reviews)

Great experience with Carmax

Can’t recommend because of mileage. I didn’t think we’d drive enough to make a difference but this has become the primary vehicle. Previous 4-cyl vehicle got better mpg. The current 6-cyl auto has more power & gets better mileage.

Pros

  • Technology and Entertainment: So many luxury features you find on more expensive cars. Turbo charged! Big sunroof; great sound system & navigation. Lots of safety sensors!
  • Styling: Looks great! Comfortable heated/cooled seats; big cargo area;
  • Dashboard: Easy to look at; steering wheel controls make scrolling easier.

Cons

  • Fuel Economy: Probably biggest and maybe only drawback. Getting just over 20mpg is less efficienct than many, more powerful 6-cyl engines.

- Scott Olson, 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport

A luxury suv at a low price!

The sport model of this Santa Fe is everything luxury. Heated steering wheel, heated & cooled seats, panoramic sunroof, backup, forward, and overhead view camera system, navigation, you name it, it has it! AWD, Drives well in snow and very reliable. 100% recommend!

Pros

  • Interior Space: Plenty of leg room and still a good amount of cargo space for a smaller SUV. My husband is 6’2” so this was important to us.
  • Visibility: I haven’t found a blind spot yet, plus this edition has lane assist which alerts you if there are vehicles to either side of you
  • Dashboard: Notifications and all info easily accessible on dashboard and versatile based on what you like to view while driving

Cons

  • Fuel Economy: Fuel economy is good, in eco mode. There is a normal and sport mode which are a lot harder on mpg.

- Taylor Agnew, 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport

Awesome vehicle with all the Bells and Whstles

Pros- Security Features, Automatic Backdoor, Very roomy, Power of the engine Cons- Have not found any yet! We absolutely love the comfort and room inside our vehicle. Great for traveling!

Pros

  • Ride and Handling: I feel like I am in control of my vehicle, not the road

Cons

  • Fuel Economy:
