If you’re looking at an SVR, it’s all about the power and sound of the supercharged V8. More than enough power for everyday, very smooth and livable as a daily driver… but click into Sport/Dynamic and it transforms into a growling and raw beast of an SUV. In a world heading toward boring EVs and economy cars, this is a last hurrah for V8 power and an incredibly fun to drive vehicle that still has character.
My SVR has the optional full leather sport seats, which are comfortable for long trips, extremely adjustable, heated, and ventilated. My family just completed a 7 hour road trip and we were all comfortable with minimal complaints. The rest of the interior and infotainment has been great and seems well made and fitting for a luxury vehicle of this level.
Surprisingly plush everyday when it needs to be, but also handles incredibly well for an SUV. I run mine in “light load” mode, but if you want it more aggressive, there is a “normal load” suspension mode with a higher tire PSI recommendation. Overall, Jaguar has found a wonderful balance between comfort and performance handling with the SVR.
I love my FP SVR, it’s beautiful, powerful, and comfortable, but if I had to pick an area to complain… it’s interior space. There isn’t much in the way of storage space for small items since the glovebox and center console are rather small. There is a small tunnel storage area under the shifter, but that’s sort of “out of sight out of mind” and awkward to access while driving. Door pockets are adequate, but not great. Rear cargo area is good… actually pretty great for the compact SUV category, but compared to similar exterior size SUVs like a Grand Cherokee it falls short. If you’re taking a family of 4 on a vacation, you’ll likely need a roof box, hitch carrier, etc. unless you can travel pretty light. For everyday shopping and grocery runs, it’s perfectly adequate. The parcel shelf in the cargo area is removable for carrying larger items, but there’s no place to store it under the rear load floor once it’s removed like some other SUVs. I’d prefer the retractable “window shade” type of cargo cover that’s much easier to deal with, but I suppose the parcel shelf does contribute to a quieter ride and is more robust than a more delicate retractable cover.
If you’re considering an SVR, fuel economy probably isn’t at the top of your priority list. It is, however, something to at least think about since a gallon of (required) premium fuel is well over four dollars at the time I’m writing this. With a roughly twenty three gallon tank, you can do the math on fillups. There is a bright side to things though, the SVR does get fairly good mileage considering it’s a supercharged V8. Around town on short trips in stop and go traffic, I get around 16 mpg. On longer trips of mostly highway driving, this jumps up to a rather impressive 25 mpg, which is within a couple mpg of the supercharged V6 F-Pace S and V6 Grand Cherokee Overland vehicles I’ve previously owned. I recently tracked my mpg on a 700 mile road trip with 4 people and a roof cargo carrier, and it was 21 mpg. Not bad IMO for a performance SUV, loaded down, in the middle of summer while blasting the A/C. It’s no Prius or Hybrid SUV for sure, but it does well for what it is.
It doesn’t bother me, and it probably won’t bother you if you’re the SVR type… but this is not a subtle vehicle as far as exhaust noise is concerned. It is, and sounds like, a supercharged V8. Turn on the active exhaust which opens valves in the exhaust and effectively bypasses the mufflers, and it’s on the level of what you hear from your local youngsters driving Mustangs and Camaros. Not a bad thing in itself, but you’re not sneaking up on anyone in an F-pace SVR. There is a bit of interior drone with the exhaust on, but in normal driving modes it isn’t really noticeable unless you’re accelerating. Otherwise, the cabin is pretty well dampened against road noise and other traffic as you’d expect from a luxury SUV.
