About the 2017 Jeep Compass

Vehicle Summary

The 2017 Jeep Compass packs a punch when it comes to compact SUVs. Not only do you get an interior with plenty of space for passengers and gear, but you’ll also benefit from Jeep’s capable 4x4 systems. Combine these pluses with a generous list of standard and optional features and you have a compact SUV that’s ideal for the urban dweller with an adventurous side. Keep in mind that there are two versions of the 2017 Jeep Compass: one based on the previous year’s model and a completely redesigned version. If you’re looking for nifty features like Apple® CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration as well as the highly capable Trailhawk trim, the newer model is definitely the way to go.

FAQ

Q: Are there really two versions of the 2017 Jeep Compass?

A: Yes. Jeep continued building the last-gen model for the first half of 2017 before switching to the redesigned model for the latter half of the model year.

Q: How efficient is the updated 2017 Jeep Compass?

A: The updated 2017 Jeep Compass gets an EPA estimated 25 mpg combined when equipped with the 2.4L engine, 4WD and the nine-speed automatic transmission.1

Q: What’s the deal with the “Trail Rated” badge on some 2017 Jeep Compass models?

A: Models earn the badge by passing five off-road testing categories: traction, water fording, maneuverability, articulation and ground clearance.

Q: How much ground clearance does the 2017 Jeep Compass Trailhawk offer?

A: You’ll get 8.5 inches of ground clearance with the Trailhawk.

Generation Overview

If you’re looking for a 2017 Jeep Compass, you may encounter two different versions of the same nameplate. That’s because Jeep continued building the first-generation Compass, which debuted back in 2007, until the middle of the 2017 model year. The newer second-generation Compass debuted for the second half of the 2017 model year, finishing up with a thoroughly redesigned interior and exterior along with fresher features and a new-for-2017 trim level.

The outgoing 2017 Jeep Compass came in Sport, Sport SE, Latitude and High Altitude trims. All trims come standard with FWD and a 2.0L inline-four with 158 hp. Four-wheel drive is optional across all trims, but only when paired with the 172-hp 2.4L inline-four. The Sport trim comes equipped with a good amount of kit, including Bluetooth® hands-free connectivity and available SiriusXM® satellite radio.2 Moving up to the Sport SE gives you heated vinyl and sport mesh cloth seats while the top-of-the-line High Altitude comes loaded with leather-trimmed seats, available remote start and a leather-wrapped steering wheel as standard.3 Available features include a 6.5-inch touchscreen display with GPS navigation and 40-gb hard drive storage, automatic climate control and the ParkView® rear backup camera.

The redesigned 2017 Jeep Compass offers refreshed styling inside and out while retaining the Sport and Latitude trims. The Limited trim replaces the High Altitude as the top-range trim, with the off-road-dedicated Trailhawk slotted below the Limited. If you’re an off-road enthusiast, you’ll enjoy the Trailhawk’s raised suspension, underbody protection shields, and a special front fascia designed to maximize the SUV’s approach and breakover angles. The Trailhawk also features the Jeep Active Low 4x4 system, which includes a 20 to 1 crawl ratio for navigating demanding trail sections. The redesigned 2017 Jeep Compass also features a revamped Uconnect® infotainment system with an available 8.4-inch touchscreen display.
