Generation Overview

Based on the concept coupe that was presented by Mercedes at the 2012 Avant/Garde Diaries event in Los Angeles, California, the Mercedes-Benz CLA250 is based on a fastback coupe style, with the 2014 production model being unveiled at the 2013 North American International Auto Show. It was launched with claims of being the most aerodynamic production vehicle sold, though there has been some dispute regarding this claim. As the most affordable Mercedes-Benz model being sold in the United States at the time, the CLA became the new entry-level car in the manufacturer's American lineup. It was also the first time Mercedes-Benz offered a front-wheel drive vehicle in the United States. The 2015 model year added an updated infotainment system, including a larger screen, and Mercedes' Collision Prevention Assist Plus autonomous braking system became standard. A 2017 facelift included newly-styled headlights and tail lights with available LED lighting.
