Generation Overview

Originally unveiled as a concept car at the April 2013 Shanghai Auto Show, the 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLA250 was officially unveiled later in the year at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show. The crossover's name came from the manufacturer's history, with G standing for geländewagen, German for an off-road vehicle, with L linking it to the A, as the GLA is the SUV crossover equivalent to Mercedes-Benz A-Class series of compact cars. It was designed to compete with the Audi Q3 and the BMW X1, providing the German manufacturer with a vehicle in the compact SUV crossover class. Debuting with a 2.0L turbocharged gasoline engine, dual-clutch seven-speed automatic transmission and a range of technological improvements, the GLA250's 2014 model year hit the sales floors in 2014. The 2017 model year saw a facelift that included a redesigned grille, front and rear bumper updates and new 18-inch alloy wheels, along with LED headlamps and taillamps, and the interior saw a new eight-inch infotainment system screen.
