Nissan Titan XD Platinum Reserve
I have driven lots of trucks over the years, but have never owned one personally. I have driven every domestic brand of truck through work, and have test driven lots of imports. Based on my personal needs and experience with Nissan - I purchased a 2017 Titan XD Platinum Reserve model with the 5.0 Cummins Diesel engine. The truck is equipped very, very well and can be compared to the King Ranch editions of Ford. The seats are very comfortable and the truck drives and rides great. The XD I purchased already had a bed cover, truck work boxes (on each side of the bed for Titan XD models,) and a sprayed in bed liner. The sound system is actually pretty good for a "factory" installed Rockford Fosgate system. Heated and Ventilated seats are awesome for any type of weather condition. My gas mileage is averaging around 14.8 mpg combined (city and highway driving). The MPG would be a little higher if it was not for the REGEN process that Nissan has used to clean the Diesel Particulate Filter and D.E.F. system. My Titan is going through a REGEN process about every 250-300 miles (once per tank) and drastically impacts my MPG. Without a REGEN, I can get close to 18MPG. Thank you EPA, lol! I have elected not too, but you can find aftermarket systems that will "delete and tune" the Diesel engine and get rid of the factory installed EPA required equipment. I have towed and hauled with it - no problem. There is plenty of torque to pull the max tow rating of about 13,000lbs. Although the truck has far exceeded my expectations, the only change I wish Nissan would have made sooner is updating the GPS Head unit for the radio / GPS. The unit from the factory seems a bit dated and is somewhat small for how large the interior of the truck is. My 2017 also does not have any type of Apple or Android Car play - but you do have an auxiliary connection and blue tooth. It would have just made sense in 2017 to include those features in the Titan XD - as Nissan did for most of their line-up that year. All in all, it is a great, solid truck and is loaded with features. It definitely looks and feels more like a Extra Duty (XD) truck than other trucks in the half ton category. The argument is still out on whether the XD is a 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton truck - but it has done everything I needed it to do. It keeps me comfortable and looks good while doing it. That is why I purchased it.
- Styling: It is loaded to the max. Seats are very comfortable, two tone leather looks great, and it rides and feels like a much more expensive truck.
- Technology and Entertainment: I feel Nissan could have added some more functionality into the Radio Unit in the Titan XD like they did in other Nissan models for the same year.
Great Truck for towing our Airstream
We bought this truck to tow our new Airstream and so far it has been great. It is powerful, rides nice, and has features that only much more expensive big 3 trucks come with. We can tow the trailer, all of our stuff, and a 500lb motorcycle in the bed. We have put about 2000 miles on it and most of those are towing. We did have a couple of issues or it would have been 5 stars. The EVAC system had some deteriorated parts that needed to be replaced under warranty. I would have expected Car Max to have found this and fixed it before selling us the the truck. We also had to replace the break fluid due to it being dirty. Again, seems like Car Max should have done that for me. We only have had the truck since April.
- Power: Great power for towing.
- Ride and Handling: Rides nice when towing and under load
- Seat Comfort: Very comfortable when traveling
- Fuel Economy: Pretty bad gas mileage but it's expected for the power
- Technology and Entertainment: The screen for the rear camera is too small
2017 Nissan Titan XD (Diesel)
Here are the top 5 reasons why I like and dislike this vehicle. This is the 4th diesel truck I've owned. Pros: 1. Different than the millions of Dodge, Ford and Chevys. 2. I like the fact you can get the full size crew cab and still get a 6 3/4 bed! Keep in mind though that the truck is 1.5 feet longer than most! 3. The Cummins, Aisin and American rear axle paint a picture of high end stuff.. 4. Overall, for a heavy duty pickup, it rides and brakes very well. 5. The diesel engine is "just diesel enough". You know you have a diesel Cons.. 1) Poor fuel economy (regens every 200 miles) 2) interior creature comforts a not polished in operation 3) slightly rough engine/trans operation 4) diesel needs 50 more hp 5) aftermarket support light
- Ride and Handling: Good
- Reliability: The engine/trans/rear end combo seem up to snuff
- Styling: Doesn't look like others, unique
- Fuel Economy: Yikes, I'm getting 14-15 mpg lots of regens!
- Power: Could use another 50hp
- Technology and Entertainment: Not up to (as polished) as the BIG 3.
