About the 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek

Vehicle Summary

Do you love to take off and explore, but also need a car that fits into your smaller parking spot? The 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek brings together the flexibility of an SUV without crowding out the other vehicles on the road. This compact ride has five doors, four for you and your friends, and a large liftback ready to load in shopping bags and hiking gear. Its 148-hp 2.0L engine, CVT, and standard all-wheel drive earn an EPA-estimated 33 mpg highway while a set of roof rails expands your ability for toting oversized items.1 The audio system includes a USB port, Bluetooth® connection, and smartphone app integration so you can stay in touch while taking your car up the trail. An 8.7-inch ground clearance enables you to clamber over rutted roads without damaging your vehicle.

1Fuel economy figures are based on EPA estimates for when vehicle sold as new. Fuel economy may vary for reasons like driving conditions and vehicle history. Unless specified, figures are for vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission. See fueleconomy.gov.

FAQ

Q: Is the 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek the same as the Outback Sport?

A: Yes and no. While both of these popular Subaru models are drafted on the frame of the compact Impreza hatch, the Outback Sport was discontinued in 2011. The XV Crosstrek increased the ground clearance for a more capable ride off the beaten path.

Q: Can you take the 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek off-road?

A: Every Subaru comes equipped with its Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, and the Crosstrek has 8.7 inches of ground clearance, but it does not have a heavy-duty suspension. It's great for driving over graveled trails, snowy roads, or rolling onto a sandy beach, but leave rock crawling to the trucks.

Q: Is there a Hybrid for the 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek?

A: Yes, although the companion electric motor does not significantly improve fuel economy, it does up the performance stats to 160 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque, delivering a more athletic ride around town or over rougher terrain.

Q: Does every 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek come with roof rails?

A: Yes, your compact crossover SUV includes a set of high-profile roof rails ready to support your kayak, skis, or surf board.

Generation Overview

The Subaru XV Crosstrek made its United States debut in 2012, replacing the Outback Sport in the manufacturer's lineup for compact sport utility vehicles. The 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek lies in the middle of the first generation that ran through model year 2017. Built on the same frame as the commuter-friendly Impreza, the XV Crosstrek added a lifted suspension, standard hatchback, and some bold color schemes ready to make some noise when you load up for adventure at your favorite nature park. Two power plants are on tap starting with the standard 2.0L BOXER® four-cylinder engine that earns 148 hp and is paired with a five-speed manual transmission. The Hybrid adds an electric motor, continuously-variable transmission with paddle shifters, and an EV mode to help you maximize fuel usage. Pop the manual liftgate and fold the split rear seat flat to open up a maximum 51.9 cubic feet of functional room for camping and sports gear. Flip up the back seat and you have seating for up to five.

Three trims are available on the gas model and two for the hybrid. The 2.0i kicks the fun off with 17-inch alloy wheels, cruise control, fog lights, and an infotainment system with Bluetooth connections. The Premium trim brings heated front seats, side mirrors, and wipers to the mix along with a center console. In the Limited you will find leather-trimmed seats, automatic climate control, and an upgraded audio system with a SiriusXM® satellite radio.2 When you opt for the Hybrid, the standard trim starts off with body-color mirrors and door handles, a CVT with paddle shifters, backup camera, and keyless entry with push button start. The Hybrid Touring delivers a power moonroof and infotainment system with navigation and seven-inch touchscreen.2

If you are on the hunt for a compact ride with driver assist features, the gas version provides the Subaru Eyesight® suite as an optional package on the Premium and Limited trim levels. This collection of technology upgrades includes lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and a pre-collision braking system. Other popular accessories that may have been installed when sold as new include a roof spoiler, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with garage opener, and a Sport mesh grille.

Fun ride!

- Amanda Cronkn, 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek

It's OK

The engine is gutless. The mileage is listed as 35-40 MPG which highly exaggerated. I get 26. I figured manual transmission would get better mileage. I was wrong. The hi-tech radio doesn't get satellite radio and has never worked properly. The bluetooth setting is terrible. It's totally inconvenient to use and hazardous because you have to constantly mess with it for 5-10 minutes when first start driving.

- Scott Treanor, 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek

Cross trek is a great car!

It has a comfortable ride and many safety components for the driver. It is a Smart Car.
