I have had 3 Toyota trucks over the years. Never had any trouble with any of them. Easy to drive stick and/or automatic, gas mileage was great. This time I decided to go with a CUV which is a cross-over from a car and SUV. Had to get used to the color which is Sunfire (redish). Never realized how many red vehicles there were out there until I got mine. It handles so easy. I love it. Couldn't be happier.
This is a great vehicle that suits our needs well. The 4 cylinder coupled with the 6 speed transmission has been peppy, fairly frugal, roomy, yet capable of towing. We're getting an average of 22-24 which is good, but we have yet to see 27 mpg EPA hwy rating. This one has the tow prep package (rated to 3,500#) - we haven't pulled that, but with a load of 6 passengers + trailer (about 1,000#) it handled a long steep grade into the NC mountains acceptably. Note that the 2nd seat in the middle row is not for a full sized person and when you have the 3rd seat up, there is very little storage - but, 6 adults can be comfortable - 4 with ample storage. It's not a minivan (we have one) but can step up to people hauler duty. Sturdy roof rack.
Although this car was 5 years old when I purchased it, it had less than 30,000 miles and looked and drove like brand new. It is by far the nicest car I have ever owned; some people have their Cadillacs or Mercedes, I have my Toyota. It's a good thing it has cruise control because it rides so smooth down the highway you can hit 90 without realizing it. I had it in for an oil change and the guys in the shop told me you can't go wrong with a Highlander. It is really quiet, smooth riding, and actually gets great gas mileage for a vehicle its size (around 24 MPG city/freeway). The second row seats are incredibly roomy even for a full grown adult. The quality interior looks classy and has no annoying rattles or squeaks.
