When at the red light people behind you sees that you are driving a Prius and moves to your right to over take you ( thinking that you are driving a slow accelerating car ), what you do is easy, push on your pwr mode button and watch how big their eyes get on your rear mirror when the light turns green. Other times, I love to see avg consumption around 60 mpg which she never disappoints me.
I'm big, 6' 2". The car has plenty of head and leg room. I commute 95 miles per day and the Prius handles well, winter, summer; rain, snow, sleet, and dry. It is light and nimble. Using the power button the car's transmission allows the car to accelerate with the engine RPM's held in the highest torque band of the engine. It is surprisingly quick. Turn off the power button and the car get mind blowing mileage; I am averaging between 50 and 55 mpg on my commutes. The heat and AC are excellent. The headlights are absolutely outstanding.
Obvious hybrid fuel economy is a definite plus. I was surprised at the power, can go from 75 to 100 to pass long lines of cars without much effort at all. I'm a big truck country kinda guy, and have always hated the Prius out of principle. After driving one for a year while commuting 500 mi a week, I really don't have anything bad to say about it, except the braking. Due to the varying friction from the charging mechanism, your brake pedal pressure will never be consistent and smooth braking is almost impossible, with slow braking to, say a stop light. Hard, emergent braking is unaffected.
