Because overall everything is good.

The Golf R is a great car. Subtle, but handsome looks, brilliant interior and the general feel of quality just shows everywhere.
Daily driving it is comfortable, beautifully equipped and rides very well.
Once you decide to give it a bit of a push and get out on some winding roads, it just completely changes. The four wheel drive system provides an astonishing amount of grip while the turbo charged 2.0L engine surges once above 3000 RPM all the way to redline. It gives you a gentle push back in the seat and it wants to get to that next corner as quick as it can. Brakes are fantastic and slow you just as quickly.
Four six feet people can sit in it in comfort without issue and the interior feels more like a luxury car then hot hatch.
My very first new car was a '71 Super Beetle. I loved that car and have thought about it ever since. I got sidetracked and moved away from VW for reasons unrelated to VW. Now I'm back in the fold and its love all over again.
Being a highway traveller, I sprung for the diesel Golf. I have to say, I think I am now a "diesel man." I cannot imagine owning a gasoline car again. I live in a moderately temperate area, so cold-starts are not a major concern. I just cannot believe how effortlessly the thing handles highways speeds, hills and all.
The car is quick, responsive and sure-footed as I anticipated. The stability control and just plain solid engineering of the suspension system have already saved my life, I believe, only after 6 weeks of owning the car. At about 70mph, I had to dodge a trailer truck coming over on me and then another car zinging around from the far side of the truck. I was running slaloms for a few seconds and the car felt like it was glued to the road. It went only where I wanted it to go and did so with an instant touch.
I'm in love, that's really all I can say about my diesel Golf.
