This car is just amazing. Four door hatchback practicality with sports car driving experience. Every other weekend i do a 325 mile round trip drive to visit my daughter, mostly on curvy back roads through beautiful land. It was time for a new car, and I wanted something that would make the drive fun, while still being a good all around vehicle. I had always been curious about the GTI, so I set out to test drive one. My local Carmax had a gorgeous red one in stock with decently low mileage. I drove it and loved it. I drove a few other cars, including a turbo Mini Cooper that I loved, but settled on the VW. I've put several thousand miles on her and am still in love. Highly recommend the DSG transmission and paddle shifters!
2015 Volkswagen GTIHigh Standards - any town, CT01/06/2016
I have the SE with lighting package and performance package 6 speed. It was the car of the year and has won a lot awards for good reason! Beat out the Subaru WRX, Audi A3, BMW 2 series and Mini Cooper. That is some serious competition. The interior is phenomenal. The ride is sporty and still comfortable, room for four adults no problem. Excellent on gas. Fold the rear seats down and you can stuff a 7 foot Christmas tree in the car. It subtle and classy. This car has all the boxes checked. Just a well rounded car that is appealing in many ways. Did I mention fun to drive and fast!!!
The best all around car I've ever driven - BUY IT!
2013 Volkswagen GTI Wolfsburg Edition w/ DSG
Simply put, the GTI is a great blend of fun, maturity, practicality, and value. It has yet to disappoint in my 2 years of ownership and has proven to be equally pleasant on the highway (comfortable ride, stable feel, great mileage) and winding back roads (great handling, natural steering feel from an electric rack no less, good power). The hatchback and folding seats add great versatility, and it looks appropriately aggressive without shouting for attention (but plaid seats do get compliments).
I only have three minor complaints about the car...
- Manual headlights in lower trims
- Trip mpg in the heads up display mildly overstates fuel economy
- Manual upshifts are slightly delayed
