The 2018 Volvo XC90 earns praise for luxurious comfort, quietness, and technological sophistication. Customers love its smooth handling, seat comfort, and elegant styling. Criticisms include fuel efficiency and the Sensus infotainment system's responsiveness. Some reliability quirks, such as door mechanism issues and rotor overheating, were reported. Overall, it’s a solid option for luxury SUV fans.

The Scandinavian design is timeless. You could grab one from 2015 and compare it to a 2024 model and not much has actually changed. Simple, understated, elegant, and stately are the words that I’d use to describe the look of this vehicle.
My model is equipped with the air suspension and it rides quite well, a little similar to our old grand Cherokee that had Quadra-air or wtv they called it. the Volvo rides better than that GC, and handles much better. Yes there is body roll, but thanks to the 275 width tires that come on the R-Design trim. It gives back good stability and handling, which really helps for these 4,400 lbs on wheels.
It’s well designed if you don’t plan on having a lot of little things with you, as in there is not a whole lot of storage spaces when looking at other vehicles, my main annoyance is with the small cup-holders. Most American drinks are quite tall, so when you have other impaired drivers coming into your lane, your use of the brakes will 95% of the time make said drink go into your door and passenger footwell.
Turbocharged and Supercharged 2.0 liter four cylinder. I think Volvo should have kept at least the five cylinder for other markets to make more power, and not have to offer it in china (that’s why Volvos are all 2.0 now too, because the pricing goes off engine liter over there). There’s not a lot of instant oomf that you’d like to have in. a big three row CUV like this.
So pre-2020 Sensus (Volvo’s infotainment system) wasn’t very fast or smart. I use the voice command button so I don’t have to take my hands off the wheel and deal with the screen, but unlike our not with us anymore 2020 V90 CC, the voice command system was smarter. I was able to say “I’m cold” and it would just turn the heat up, in this 2018 XC90, it will not do that when I say that. Also I wish as some point Volvo updated the interior to give it the new style vents before its 2025.5 facelift.
The brakes are too small. This car is too big to have anything less than 18” rotors. The braking power I find is also not efficient. You will be needing to brake earlier than you think you otherwise would need to just to avoid a collision. Due to the brakes not being big enough, they often get overused, overheated, and warped. Many XC90 owners have complained online about going through abnormal amounts of rotors.
