First generation BMW i4
The BMW i4 is in its first generation and represents BMW’s decision to offer both electric and gasoline-powered drivelines in its basic lineup. The i4 offers the same four-door liftback Gran Coupe body style as the gas-powered version of the same vehicle. This design delivers the convenience of a four-door sedan with the attractive fastback design of a coupe and the utility of the liftback.
Inside, the i4 provides seating for five adults, generous cargo space, and a tech-forward interior. The i4 uses the modern single-pane design for a dashboard interface, presenting driver information on the left and sweeping a single curved pane of glass past the centerline of the cabin.
Drivetrain choices in the i4 include the single-motor rear-drive eDrive35, which was replaced in 2025 with the eDrive40. There's also the dual-motor all-wheel-drive xDrive40, or the top-end, more powerful M50 all-wheel-drive model. All models offer DC fast charging at up to 200 kilowatts.
