The 2023 BMW M240i gets a new high-tech interior
BMW has a history of producing sporty compact luxury coupes, and that tradition continues with the 2023 BMW 2 Series. As many vehicles in BMW's lineup have grown significantly larger over the decades (the larger 4 Series is one of them), fans of compact coupes will be pleased that the 2 Series delivers the pint-sized thrills of its ancestors.
The M240i designation refers to the sport-oriented trim of the 2 Series lineup. It includes features such as a powerful turbocharged six-cylinder engine, upgraded brakes, larger wheels, and an adaptive sport suspension. There is also an available all-wheel-drive version called the M240i xDrive. The turbo four-cylinder 230i trim has a less powerful engine and is reviewed separately.
Only a year removed from its redesign, the 2023 BMW M240i gets a big change to its interior. The previous center screen, climate control, and shifter have been revised to a sleeker design with a curved screen and a less button-heavy layout.

What We Like
Thrilling to drive: The M240i has excellent handling and performance. Its turbocharged six-cylinder engine makes more than enough power and feels strong in town or on the highway. The sportier suspension helps keep body motions under control in spirited driving. The brake performance is impressive and easy to control when you're on the street.
Audio and technology: The M240i comes standard with wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ smartphone integration plus a wireless charging pad and multiple USB-C ports. The available Harman Kardon audio system is also impressive, offering clarity and well-rounded bass at high volumes. Like any modern infotainment system, it has a learning curve but controls for the media, navigation, and high-level settings are all easy to access.
Easy to see out of: The M240i's visibility is impressive for a two-door coupe. The body pillars aren't thin, but they're placed in a way that does not hinder the views. Blind spots aren't much of an issue either.
What Needs Improvement
Cramped rear seats: There's excellent head-, leg-, and shoulder room up front, but much less so in the back. The rear seat is small and isn't likely to be comfortable for many adults, even on shorter drives. Getting in the back seat requires some gymnastics that many adults simply won't, or can't, perform. If you regularly carry rear passengers of any size, the 2 Series may not be the best fit.
