2022 Buick Encore GX review

1. Comfortable and roomy interior 

The 2022 Buick Encore GX is a stylish subcompact on the outside but also manages to be a spacious SUV on the inside. There’s seating for five passengers in the cabin, with front seat occupants enjoying 40.9 inches of legroom, while rear seat passengers get 36 inches to stretch out into. For maximum comfort, pick the Select trim for dual-zone automatic climate control, a rear armrest, and heated front seats, or move up to the Essence trim for leather upholstery. 

2. Generous cargo space 

The 2022 Encore GX’s capacious cabin is ably supported by an equally spacious trunk. With 23.5 cu-ft of cargo volume behind the rear seats, everything from weekly grocery shopping to family holiday luggage can fit in with space to spare. For transporting larger items such as furniture, fold the rear seats flat and that cargo volume increases to 50.2 cu-ft. A hands-free liftgate can also be found as a standalone option, making loading and unloading even easier.  

3. Pair of small yet potent engines 

Good things come in small packages, and that’s certainly the case for both engine choices the 2022 Encore GX has to offer. First up is a 1.2L turbocharged three-cylinder engine, standard on front-wheel-drive Preferred and Select models, and producing 137 horsepower. Alternatively, a 1.3L turbocharged engine is standard on all-wheel-drive Essence models and optional on front-wheel-drive Select model, packing 155 horsepower. Both provide punchy performance, while also being able to achieve an EPA-estimated 30 mpg combined with front-wheel drive.

For peak luxury and gadgets, top-line Essence trims can be found with a heads-up display, wireless charging pad, a sunroof, and a seven-speaker Bose® sound system.

To provide the most relaxing driving experience possible every day, the 2022 Encore GX has a wealth of driver convenience features on offer up and down the trim list. Forward collision and lane departure mitigation systems are included as standard, and models equipped with the available suite of driver assists also get adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. Additionally, to help with parking in tight situations, the Convenience package on Essence trims includes a digital rearview mirror and an automated parking system.
