2024 GMC Sierra 2500 review

1. Huge towing 

If you haul a sailboat to the lake, heavy equipment to a construction site, or longhorns to auction, this is the truck for you. Every trim level has standard trailer mirrors, and one of the options is a gooseneck/fifth-wheel hitch, so you know the Sierra 2500 isn’t messing around. Look for a Crew Cab long bed with the 6.6L diesel V8 and RWD for the biggest towing numbers. The 2024 GMC Sierra 2500 in this configuration has a maximum estimated towing capacity of 22,070 lbs when properly equipped. 

2. Passenger space 

The 2024 GMC Sierra 2500 seats up to six adults in the available Crew Cab. With 43-inches of headroom and 44.5-inches of legroom in the standard eight-way power front seats, everyone can get comfortable for a long road trip. The second row is generous as well, with 40-inches of headroom and 43.4-inches of legroom. The optional heated and ventilated seats let everyone set their preferred temp, and storage cubbies below, behind, and in-between the seats offer smart storage solutions.  

3. HD engines 

The GMC Sierra 2500 offers two engine options, both of them powerful V8s. The base engine is a 6.6L gas V8 making 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm. This engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and is perfect for everyday work and towing. The optional engine is the same size, but this time it's a 6.6L turbodiesel V8. It makes 445 hp and an incredible 910 lb-ft at just 1,600 rpm. The diesel pairs with a professional grade Allison^® 10-speed automatic transmission for effortless heavy towing. 

4. AT4X for off-road 

Job site off the paved road? AT4X has what you need. Exclusive wheels and a 1.5 lift can tackle any amount of mud, and front and rear locking differentials ensure four-wheel traction. The AT4X gets Miltimatic^™ dampers that electronically adjust to road conditions thousands of times per second. It’s proven tech from sports cars, and it lets the AT4X conquer any terrain or the roughest roads without beating up your passengers.  

5. Denali trim 

The ultimate trim package is far more than just chrome, although there are chrome recovery hooks, grille, and wheels standard here. Inside, check out the standard 10-way power seats with power lumbar supports. Other standard features include a Bose^® premium sound system, cargo bed view camera, HD Surround Vision 360-degree camera, and ProGrade Trailering System. Options include a massively useful trailer tire pressure and temperature sensor package.
