The 2024 Honda HR-V can carry plenty of cargo but may be too slow for some
The HR-V is Honda's smallest SUV, sitting below the larger CR-V in the company’s SUV lineup. While the HR-V is technically a subcompact SUV, it can carry plenty of cargo and should have enough interior space for most people. Edmunds editors have praised the HR-V for its smooth handling, roomy interior, and ease of entry.
Since the HR-V was fully redesigned for the 2023 model year, the 2024 model has no changes. That major redesign brought new styling, a larger overall size, an updated interior, and slightly more power. Despite that bump in power, the Edmunds test team felt that the HR-V's engine was still underpowered and would struggle when you needed to accelerate quickly. A number of Edmunds customer reviews also mentioned the lack of power as well as excessive engine noise, likely due to the engine working hard to get up to speed. Other customers were bothered by the removal of the prior model's multi-configurable rear seats, which offered more flexible interior cargo space.

What We Like
Intuitive controls: Honda's touchscreen interface is easy to learn and simple to use. The steering wheel controls also feel very natural to operate, and none of the gauges are obstructed or oddly placed. A surround-view camera system isn't available, but the rearview camera offers multiple viewing angles.
Cargo space: The HR-V's cargo area feels larger than its numbers might suggest. The rear seatbacks split 60/40 and fold nearly flat for added capacity.
Easy entry: Some SUVs are challenging to get in and out of. No so with the HR-V. A low step-in height plus large squared-off door openings make getting in a breeze.
What Needs Improvement
Seat comfort: Some Edmunds testers felt that the cushion on the front seats was overly firm and not comfortable. There's a lack of lumbar support for both the driver and front passenger, which might be an issue if you need lower back support. Oddly, we found the rear seats to be more comfortable than the front, as they have a softer cushion and are able to recline.
