2024 Mazda CX-90 PHEV review

1. Balanced powertrain 

The 2024 Mazda CX-90 rolls in with a 2.5L four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor that team up for a combined 323 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. That’s plenty of power to satisfy your craving for strong acceleration, but its real shining star is its EPA-estimated 26 miles of driving range on electricity alone.

It’s not all about electric-only driving, though, as the CX-90 PHEV also delivers an EPA-estimated 56 MPGe combined when you pair the gasoline and electric powerplants. 

2. It can tow too 

Plug-in hybrid vehicles aren’t always known for strong towing. Mazda realizes towing is likely one reason you want an SUV, so it tuned the 2024 CX-90 PHEV’s powertrain and chassis to deliver a respectable towing capacity. When properly equipped, it rings in at an estimated 3.500 pounds, which is plenty for a smaller trailer or boat.

 

3. Luxurious cabin 

While Mazda is not a luxury automaker, it’s put a lot of effort into putting some heat on entry-level luxury SUVs in higher trim levels. The 2024 Mazda CX-90 PHEV pulls this off nicely. The range-topping Premium Plus trim gets all sorts of desirable standard features, including a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, ventilated front seats, Nappa leather seating, heated first- and second-row seats, an eight-way power passenger seat, a heated steering wheel, a Bose^® 12-speaker audio system, and more to scratch your luxury car itch.   

4. Tons of standard features too 

Even if a decked-out 2024 CX-90 isn’t in the cards for you, it still offers you tons of standard features you’ll love. For the tech-whiz inside you, it comes standard with Pandora^® integration, SiriusXM^®, four USB ports, a seven-inch digital instrument cluster, Android Auto^™ and Apple CarPlay^® integration, and more. The audiophile inside will appreciate its standard eight-speaker audio system with Bluetooth^® audio streaming. It even comes standard with synthetic leather upholstery, so you still get that feeling of luxury without the leather price tag. 

5. Comfortable all around 

The 2024 CX-90 can seat six to eight people, depending on the configuration you choose, and the front two rows are supremely comfortable no matter which seating setup you have. The seats are supportive but still soft, and offer 41.7 inches of legroom up front and 39.4 inches in the second row. The third row is a convenient space in a pinch, and its 30.4 inches of legroom make it a good spot for younger kids.
