2024 Mazda CX-90 makes its debut
The 2024 Mazda CX-90 replaces the CX-9 as the flagship vehicle in Mazda's SUV lineup. It's a premium three-row SUV that can compete with entry-level luxury SUVs and provide more refinement than you'll get in an SUV like the Kia Telluride or Volkswagen Atlas.
The CX-90 is about the same size as the CX-9 it replaces, but its wheelbase (the distance between front and rear wheels) is longer. That benefits both passenger and cargo space, something that was not impressive in the CX-9. Even with that improvement, the CX-90 still lags behind three-row rivals when it comes to storage and space for passengers.
But the CX-90 is fun to drive thanks to a powerful and fuel-efficient engine. The ride and seats are comfortable and the materials in the vehicle are high-quality. All-wheel drive is standard, and there's a plug-in hybrid option for those looking to save even more on gas.

What We Like
Comfort: The CX-90 offers a comfortable ride that can tackle bumps and potholes without creating a jittery or bumpy journey. The seats are quite comfortable with ample side cushioning that makes long journeys easier to manage. The interior is also rather quiet, keeping wind noise at bay while on the highway.
Fuel economy: The CX-90 delivers an EPA-estimated 25 miles per gallon
, which is a few mpg better than what you'll find on most three-row SUVs. The plug-in hybrid version of the vehicle can go about 25 miles on all-electric power before switching to gas.Fun to drive: The CX-90's engine is plenty powerful, going from 0 to 60 mph quicker than 7 seconds. That's punchier than rivals, and it makes merging onto crowded freeways a breeze. Even though the CX-90 is comfortable on the road, it doesn’t lean too much while going through turns.
What Needs Improvement
Storage: Even in the most storage-friendly configuration, you'll only get a maximum of 15.9 cubic feet of storage on the CX-90. That lags behind rivals like the Kia Telluride, which offers 21 cubic feet of storage behind the third row.
