Ram 3500

The Ram 3500 already boasted strong capability, and the new fifth generation was even more impressive. With a combination of more high-strength steel and aluminum, the Ram’s chassis was both stronger and lighter, improving drivability and overall capability. A bolder exterior look added to the truck’s appeal, and with a wide array of trim levels, the cabin ranged from basic to lavish. Starting in 2022, the Ram 3500 was available with the Uconnect® 5 infotainment system, featuring faster response times and a 12-inch display. 

To go with its upgraded chassis, the fifth-generation Ram 3500 came out with one of the most powerful engines available in a production pickup truck. The Ram’s 6.7-liter Cummins high-output turbodiesel engine delivered 400 horsepower and a stunning 1,000 lb-ft of torque—eventually upgraded to 1,075 lb-ft by 2026. Also available was a 6.4-liter Hemi® V8, teamed with an eight-speed automatic transmission. When equipped with the diesel powertrain, the Ram 3500 can tow more than 36,000 pounds.

The fourth-generation Ram 3500 arrived shortly after the Dodge name was dropped from the big truck. With bold styling and a spacious cabin, the Ram 3500 came in a range of body styles that included regular cab, crew cab, and extra-roomy Mega Cab; the extended-cab variants were discontinued for this generation. While it was designed to be a workhorse, the Ram 3500 was available with a range of premium features like heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and a heated steering wheel. Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ were added in 2018.

When it first arrived, the fourth-gen Ram 3500 was offered with either a 5.7-liter Hemi® V8 or the high-torque Cummins turbodiesel, teamed with either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. A 6.4-liter V8 was added in 2014, delivering 410 horsepower. Towing capacity with the diesel increased to 30,000 pounds in 2013, following an upgrade to the truck's chassis
