The 2016 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 falls under this full-size SUV's 11th generation of production (2015-2020). This generation debuted with a revamped 5.3L V8 direct-injection engine for improved performance. This generation also saw the release of new features, including an available touchscreen interface and driver-assistance technology in the form of blind-spot monitoring and frontal-collision warning with mitigation.
Another welcome change with the 11th-generation model is that unlike with previous models, the third-row seats can now be folded and stowed away rather than being completely removed to create additional cargo storage.
By the 2016 model year specifically, an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay also became standard.
2016 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 Engine Options
Every 2016 Chevrolet Suburban is outfitted with a 5.3L V8 engine at 355 hp, which is paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. While rear-wheel drive is standard, every 2016 Suburban 1500 trim was offered with four-wheel drive when this SUV was sold new. Two different four-wheel drive systems were available: a traditional part-time system and a full-time four-wheel drive option that is similar to an all-wheel drive platform.
2016 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 Interior

Reviews for 2016 Chevrolet Suburban 1500
Driving your couch
Gas mileage is in the low 20's if you drive ecenomically and keep it below 75 mph. Has a little trouble at lower speeds but the variable engine compensates. Cabin is spacious and comfortable.
- Fuel Economy: At 22 MPG the cruise distance is over 500 miles. Makes for less frequent stops.
- Interior Space: Room for two kayaks inside. Very easy to reconfigure seats
- Weather Versatility: Bring it.
- Visibility: The vehicle is a tank. You have to get used to the hood being so prominent
- Styling: I am 5'10" and need a step stool to check the oil.
