Part of the Suburban 1500's 11th generation of production (2015-2020), the 2018 model remains a sensible choice for larger families who don't want to sacrifice utility. When this generation debuted in 2015, it did so with a number of deviations from its previous model. This included an upgraded 5.3L V8 engine with cylinder deactivation for a smoother ride. Compared to the previous generation, this was also the first lineup of Suburban 1500 models to include a folding third-row seat. In previous model years, the third row had to be entirely removed to increase cargo space.
2018 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 Engine Options
A 5.3L V8 engine at 355 hp with six-speed automatic transmission is standard on every 2018 Suburban 1500. When sold new, rear-wheel drive was also standard—but two different four-wheel drive systems were optional. With that in mind, finding a used model with four-wheel drive may be a wise choice if you prefer some extra traction.
2018 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 Interior
The 2018 Suburban 1500 boasts a cavernous interior. In addition to offering seating for up to nine people, you can still find 39.3 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row. And when storage takes priority over seating capacity, you can fold down the second- and third-row seats to create a massive 121.7-cubic-foot cargo area. Loading and unloading items is even easier when you opt for a used model with available power liftgate or hands-free power liftgate.
Combine all this with plenty of small-item storage in the form of large door pockets and a generous center console, and it's easy to see how the 2018 Suburban 1500 can accommodate your whole crew (and all their stuff).

Very Spacious and Great Highway Fuel Efficiency
Big enough for the whole family, pets, and cargo. Drives like a dream and very comfortable.
- Ride and Handling: Very smooth even on bumpy roads.
- Cargo Space: Huge inside.
- Seat Comfort: Very comfortable seats throughout.
- Dashboard: Connection to console via bluetooth are not intuitive. Ford Sync is far superior.
- Fuel Economy: Non-highway fuel economy is not great.
- Braking: Not a big con. It brakes fine, but it is very big and heavy which means getting used to adjusting stopping distance and pressure.
