Generation Overview
The 2017 Dodge Journey falls under the model's first generation of production (2009-2019). When the Journey debuted in 2009, it was marketed to offer the interior comfort and space of a minivan with the smooth and sleek ride of an SUV. By the 2017 model year, the Journey offered features like standard all-wheel drive on its V6 engine and impressive tech features, such as an available 8.4-inch touchscreen and rear-seat DVD entertainment system.
Dodge Journey Engine Options
The standard engine on every first-generation Journey model is a 2.4L four-cylinder at 173 hp; it is paired to a four-speed automatic transmission and comes exclusively with front-wheel drive.
From 2009 through 2010, an optional 3.5L V6 engine at 235 hp was offered; this engine is paired to a six-speed automatic transmission and can be had with front- or all-wheel drive. From the 2011 model year onwards, this engine was upgraded to a 3.6L V6 at 283 hp—and beginning with the 2017 model year, all-wheel drive becomes standard on this engine for every trim except the GT.
Dodge Journey Storage Space
The Dodge Journey was designed with storage space in mind; in addition to offering three rows of seating for up to seven passengers, the first-generation Journey also features second- and third-row seats that can fold completely flat to maximize cargo storage at a full 67.6 cubic feet.
Even with all seats intact, you'll enjoy 10.7 cubic feet of storage space behind the third row—and a respectable 39.6 cubic feet of space can be attained by simply folding down the third row and leaving the second-row seats in place.

Reviews for 2017 Dodge Journey
lots of leg room
this car is great on long trips, lots of leg room, storage space and very comfortable to drive. I've put 7,000 miles on it in the last six months, driven to Williamsburg VA, Baltimore MD, Wildwood NJ, etc.
Pros
- Interior Space: my number one concern is leg room, and this car has the most of any car I've ever driven.
- Cargo Space: I'm a musician, so there is room for amps, guitars mic stands etc. and also room for my golf clubs!
Cons
- Fuel Economy: Fuel economy is 22-23 mpg, not bad for a 6 cylinder, but not great either.
Nice look, good interior, no power!
This car has absolutely no power. When you try to pass someone on the highway you have to push the gas all the way to the floor and it still doesn't speed up very fast.
Pros
- Styling: It is very nice looking inside and out.
- Technology and Entertainment: Very many options to keep track of car performance and climate and sound and phone and radio
Cons
- Power: There is no power. Often you need to floor the gas to speed up.
- Seat Comfort: Seats are fine for short trips but long trips or sleeping in the car is very uncomfortable
- Fuel Economy: Poor gas mileage.
AMAZING CAR at and AFFORDABLE PRICE.
Not too big, not too small. This seven seater fits my family of 5 perfectly, but also doesn’t seem too big when I’m riding solo. Absolutely love this car. I’ve put 20,000 miles on this car In the past 6 months and have had no issues what so ever. Amazing car!
