Comfortable seating and room in the back seats for passengers. Smooth ride along with smooth clutch. Good gas mileage well priced. Fast little 4 cylinder. Been a fan of volkswagen have owned three so far mechanically sound and haven't had any bad electrical issues with any vw I've owned. Highly recommend for the sports car finatic.
2003 GTI VR6 6spd
2003 Volkswagen GTITheYankee - 4022212/16/2008
Good vehicle in general. Drives very well, and of course, it's a VR6, so it goes where and when you point it when you want it to without question. This is my second GTI - replacing an '88 16v.
However, it is a VW made between 2001 and 2004, so it's a "lifestyle car;" meaning that your lifestyle will be based on diagnosing and repairing various electrical issues. Once you get them dialed, it s an awesome car, but I've had the car for perhaps five wks and it's been in the shop for two of those. - Cold start total ignition failure. It turned out NOT to be the coil pack (VW recalled these in the past) but rather the coolant temp sensor. - another frequently malfunctioning part.
Still, I'd get another one if given the chance, when they work properly: AWESOME.
The best all around car I've ever driven - BUY IT!
2013 Volkswagen GTI Wolfsburg Edition w/ DSG
Simply put, the GTI is a great blend of fun, maturity, practicality, and value. It has yet to disappoint in my 2 years of ownership and has proven to be equally pleasant on the highway (comfortable ride, stable feel, great mileage) and winding back roads (great handling, natural steering feel from an electric rack no less, good power). The hatchback and folding seats add great versatility, and it looks appropriately aggressive without shouting for attention (but plaid seats do get compliments).
I only have three minor complaints about the car...
- Manual headlights in lower trims
- Trip mpg in the heads up display mildly overstates fuel economy
- Manual upshifts are slightly delayed
