2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD is built for the working life

2022 was a good year for the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD, primarily because this was the year that the Multi-Flex tailgate became available on all trim levels. The Multi-Flex tailgate was pioneered by Chevrolet’s sister brand, GMC, and incorporates a tailgate-within-the-tailgate that allows six distinct functions, including a stairway to the bed. Also, a power-adjustable driver’s seat was made available on the affordable Custom trim level.

Apart from those things, the 2022 Silverado 2500HD line didn’t change much from 2021. You could still get your choice of powerful gasoline or turbodiesel V8 engines, including with four-wheel drive, and there are a variety of body and bed sizes. That made the 2022 Silverado 2500HD a functional and comfortable choice for work use or for heavy-duty weekend play and adventures.

Competing models to the Silverado 2500HD include the Ford F-250, Ram HD, and the GMC Sierra HD. All are comparable in terms of capability, variety of features, and price.

5 reasons to buy the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

What We Like

Engine options: Chevrolet offered the 2022 Silverado 2500HD with either a gasoline-fueled 6.6-liter V8 with 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque, or a 6.6-liter turbo-diesel V8 engine with 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque for better towing performance and better fuel economy.

Multi-Flex tailgate: The innovative Multi-Flex tailgate allows easy access to the bed by flipping down the small inner tailgate, which can double as a standing desk or support for long cargo. Fold the whole tailgate down, and there’s a flap that will help hold larger cargo in place. Or drop both the inner and main tailgates to create a set of stairs to climb into the bed.

Towing camera system: Chevrolet offers up to 15 different camera views when towing, including views from remote cameras inside and behind your trailer. The system can even create a composite view along the sides and behind the trailer to create a Transparent Trailer View. The various camera views allow easy reversing and precision trailer placement, even for amateurs.

What Needs Improvement

Towing and hauling capability: While the Silverado 2500HD offers great towing and hauling capability, it does not offer the most, as competition among truck makers increases. You just need to make sure that it offers enough towing (up to 18,500 pounds) and payload (up to 3,969 pounds) to meet your particular needs.
