The 2024 GMC Hummer EV gets more range and more trims
The all-electric GMC Hummer EV is the sort of pickup truck you buy when you want to stand out from the crowd, play with the latest technology, and have fun on and off the road. The Hummer EV competes with the smaller Rivian R1T and the more traditionally truck-styled Ford F-150 Lightning.
There are new trim levels for 2024 that make the Hummer a bit more accessible. The base 2 trim uses a small battery, good for a GM-estimated 250-plus miles. The 2X and 3X trims use a medium-sized battery, which has an EPA-estimated 314 miles of range. An even larger battery is available on the 3X trim and boosts range to a manufacturer-estimated 381 miles. Hummers equipped with mud-terrain tires will see their range drop to an EPA-estimated 298 miles for the medium battery and a GM-estimated 359 miles for the large battery. Range figures are based on EPA estimates for when vehicle sold as new and assume a full battery charge. Range will vary based on things like battery age, vehicle condition and history, driving and charging habits, accessory use, and driving conditions. Battery capacity may decrease with time and use. See fueleconomy.gov for more info. Notable features include a 5-foot bed, 12-inch ground clearance (with air suspension), and a CrabWalk feature that moves the truck diagonally around obstacles.

What We Like
Acceleration: 3X models have access to the Watts to Freedom (WTF) mode, which takes the Hummer to 60 mph in just over 3 seconds, which is unheard of for a vehicle this size. In its Normal mode, the Hummer is still ridiculously quick, which makes it easier to manage and live with on the open road.
Visibility: Despite its size, visibility is good throughout the cabin since the windows are large and square. The rearview mirror is on the small side, but there is a camera option that displays an image in the mirror and allows you to see everything behind you without worrying about your passengers and cargo.
Intuitive controls: The controls are easy enough to use that you might not need a manual to figure out common tasks. The primary controls are handled via touchscreen and the menus are simple to navigate. A drive mode dial sits right behind the gear selector and can activate CrabWalk and adjust the suspension height. The steering wheel controls are also straightforward to operate.
What Needs Improvement
Inefficient: On the one hand, you're avoiding gas consumption and tailpipe emissions. On the other, the Hummer is essentially an "electricity-guzzler." It was the least efficient EV in Edmunds' testing with a whopping 57.8 kWh of electricity used for every 100 miles of driving. In this case, lower numbers are better, and that’s 10 kWh more than the next least efficient EV, the Rivian R1S Launch Edition (with all-terrain tires), and roughly double the energy used on a Tesla Model 3 Long Range with its EPA-estimated 26 kWh.
