The 2022 GMC Hummer EV debuts as a high-performance supertruck
General Motors revived the Hummer name and brought it back as an electric pickup truck. But this isn't just a pickup truck. It's quicker than a Corvette and boasts impressive off-road capabilities. Key features include a 5-foot bed, 12 inches of ground clearance (with the air suspension), and a CrabWalk feature that moves the truck diagonally around obstacles. The Hummer EV competes with the smaller Rivian R1T and the more traditionally truck-styled Ford F-150 Lightning.
The 2022 Hummer EV debuted with only the Edition 1 trim available. It's driven by three electric motors and powered by a massive 212-kWh battery pack — more than three times the battery capacity you'd find on a Chevy Bolt. It went 390 miles on a single charge in Edmunds testing and the Hummer EV can take advantage of the fastest chargers available (350 kWh). Plugging into one of those stations can add 100 miles in as little as 10 minutes.

What We Like
Acceleration: The Hummer can go from 0-60 mph in just 3 seconds when Watts to Freedom (WTF) mode is enabled in Edmunds testing. That's mind-blowing for a vehicle of its size, and a half-second quicker than even a Corvette.
Visibility: Visibility is good thanks to its large, boxy windows and immense windshield. The rearview mirror is on the small side, but Hummer EVs are equipped with rear-camera tech that more than makes up for it.
Intuitive controls: We found the touchscreen controls intuitive and easy to operate. There's also a large dial that allows you to select drive modes and adjust the suspension. Steering wheel controls were also easy to learn and use.
What Needs Improvement
Inefficient: We've never tested a less efficient electric vehicle at Edmunds. We found it used a whopping 57.8 kWh of electricity for every 100 miles traveled (a lower number is better). For reference, that's 10 kWh more than the next least efficient electric vehicle, the Rivian R1S Launch Edition. Thanks to its large battery, the Hummer EV can still go as many as 390 miles on a single charge.
