Capable crossover for daily life
Look out for the new-for-2014 optional six-speed automatic, which offers a slightly smoother ride from the two engine options available for this year. The standard 2.0L engine is great if you need something practical for city driving, but the optional 2.4L engine gives a bit more power where it's needed, with 172 horsepower.

5 reasons to buy the 2014 Jeep Compass
1. Capable off-roader
As you expect from a Jeep, you get plenty of capability from the 2014 Jeep Compass. Base models have standard two-wheel drive but four-wheel drive is available for light off-roading and to give you extra confidence on slick roads. Look for the Freedom Drive II group, however, if you’re looking for adventure. This adds 17-inch wheels, tow hooks, a dedicated off-road driving mode, hill descent control, and underbody skid plates. This might be a compact crossover but the Freedom Drive II models will serve you well when the going gets tough.
2. Comfortable interior
Even the base model is comfortable for you and your crew with standard air conditioning and a handy 115-volt household power outlet. If you want more look for the Latitude and Limited models, which add little luxuries like a leather steering wheel. Look out for the Sun and Sound group on those trims, too, as it adds a sunroof, premium sound system, two flip-down tailgate speakers, and more.
3. Updated tech
Niceties like Bluetooth® connectivity and USB input are optional on the top trims, so keep an eye on the feature lists as you shop. For 2014, Limited models now get a standard rearview mirror and touchscreen audio interface to make the whole vehicle feel more up-to-date. Other available tech includes a navigation system, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and those cool tailgate speakers.
4. Space for your crew
This might be a crossover rather than a full-size SUV but front-seat occupants get a comfortable 40.6 inches of legroom. Adults will be comfortable in the back, too, with 39.4 inches of legroom. This gives everyone space to stretch out on your next road trip or jaunt to the lake. You also get 22.7 cu-ft of space in the trunk, which can open up to 53.6 cu-ft if you fold the rear seats.
5. You’ve got options
With three trims to choose from — Sport, Latitude, and Limited — you’ve got plenty of options when it comes to features. The 2014 Jeep Compass has a few cool things hidden up its sleeve, too. Look out for the available flip-down tailgate speakers to enhance your next tailgate party or load up the available cooled glovebox with sodas ahead of your next road trip. Other useful features include a fold-flat front passenger seat (available on Latitude, standard on Limited) to extend cargo space for long items, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a rearview camera (both on the Limited trim).
