5 reasons to buy the 2017 Toyota Mirai
1. Hydrogen fuel-cell technology
Probably the single biggest unique selling point of the 2017 Mirai is it’s cutting-edge powertrain. Instead of using a traditional battery to power the electric motor, it uses a hydrogen fuel cell as its energy source. This futuristic combination is good for an EPA-estimated 67 MPGe and an EPA-estimated range of 312 miles when fully charged, all while producing EPA-estimated tailpipe greenhouse gas emissions of 0 grams per mile.
2. Good low-speed acceleration
The hydrogen fuel cell generates electricity to power a front-mounted electric motor, which produces 151 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque. It also keeps an additional 1.6-kWh battery topped up to provide an extra boost of power when needed. The electric motor’s instant torque makes the 2017 Mirai ideal for zipping in and out of traffic in town, and it’s also capable of going from zero to 60 mph in just 8.7 seconds.
3. Eye-catching exterior styling
To emphasize the cutting-edge and innovative technology underneath, the 2017 Mirai also features bold and futuristic styling elements on the outside. From the angular front grille and sleek headlights to the sculpted body and flowing roofline, everything about this vehicle is designed to stand out from the crowd. That’s complemented by the five available exterior colors, including the new-for-2017 Atmospheric Blue Metallic.
4. Spacious and comfortable cabin
As bold and eye-catching as the 2017 Mirai is on the outside, it’s equally as comfortable and roomy on the inside. There’s seating for up to four passengers in the cabin, with 42.5 inches of front-seat legroom and 30.1 inches of rear-seat legroom. You’ll also love the selection of creature comforts included as standard, including dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front and rear seats, and a premium JBL® sound system with the Toyota Entune® app suite.
5. Full suite of driver convenience tech
For enhanced peace of mind on every journey, the 2017 Mirai offers a full range of driver-assist features as standard on every model. This suite of technologies includes lane departure alert for staying in the correct lane on the highway, as well as adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking. You also get front and rear parking sensors to help with parking in tight spaces.
