The Chevrolet Camaro holds a special place in the American marque’s history as the go-to for pony car and, later, muscle car performance. In contrast to the groundbreaking fifth generation model introduced in 2010, the sixth generation Camaro takes a more evolutionary approach to styling, performance and amenities. The 2017 model comes available in the base 1LS and 1LT trims, the mid-level 2LT, the higher-tier 1SS and 2SS and the high-performance ZL1.
Several packages are also available that add specific appearance and performance features. The 50th Anniversary Edition package, available on the 2LT and 2SS, adds several cosmetic features including a distinctive Nightfall Gray Metallic exterior color and unique exterior badges. The V6 and SS 1LE Performance Packages bestow upgraded brakes, suspension, exhaust and cooling components on V6 and V8-equipped trims.
The available engine choices are just as complex as the trim levels and packages:
- You’ll find the 275-hp 2.0L turbocharged inline-four engine standard on the 1LS, 1LT and 2LT trims.
- The 335-hp 3.6L V6 engine is available as an optional feature on the 1LS, 1LT and 2LT trims.
- The 6.2L V8 is a staple of the 1SS and 2SS trims, belting out a substantial 455 hp.
- The ZL1 features an exclusive 6.2L supercharged V8 engine with 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque on tap.
Most trims allow you to choose between a six-speed manual transmission and an eight-speed automatic with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. However, the ZL1 gets its own 10-speed automatic transmission as an optional feature, along with a performance-tuned suspension and magnetic ride control.
The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration's independent crash tests help you make informed decisions about vehicle safety. NHTSA's 5-Star Safety Ratings give consumers insights into how vehicles perform in crash tests, with more stars equaling higher safety ratings. Here are the ratings for the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro. Certain vehicles may have unrepaired safety recalls. Visit nhtsa.gov/recalls to look up a specific vehicle.
Reviews for 2017 Chevrolet Camaro
A true muscle car.
Such a fun car to drive around in - it's fast with the 6.2 liter V8 which cranks out 450 horsepower. 99% of the time you cannot drive fast in SoCal (too much traffic), but freeway onramps are a lot of fun. The tech in the car is superior and the back up camera is awesome. Chevy did it right.
- Technology and Entertainment:
- Fuel Economy: Actually gets better than 20 mpg on average.
- Interior Space:
- Cargo Space:
- Seat Comfort:
Very stylish but no room for passengers
Its an awesome car ok on gas the thermostat stuck a few times but this is a common problem with this car and yr
- Ride and Handling: awesome!
- Cargo Space: very small!!!! no leg room and trunk is ok
- Fuel Economy:
Unbelievable performance value - SS Convertible
The car performs incredibly well for the cost. 450hp and 23mpg is what I average. With the top down, the perceived visibility issues go away. It's very calm when you want to be calm and will show you what rowdy is if you want to get rowdy.
- Power: Tons and tons of power
- Braking: big brakes and wide 20" tires
- Styling: best looking of the new Camaros (including the 2019)
- Interior Space: rear seats are pretty much unusable, ergonomics are weird on doors
- Visibility: with the top up, the windows are small
