About the Hyundai Azera

Vehicle Summary

The Hyundai Azera has been around, in some form, since 1986. However, it has been frequently rebranded under different names, including the Hyundai Grandeur, in some markets. Today, the Azera is only available outside of North America, but it proved a top contender in the full-size sedan market for many years. The Azera became most popular in its fifth generation of production, which spanned from 2012 through 2017. The Hyundai Azera is an excellent choice if you’re on the market for a roomy full-sized sedan with plenty of standard features.

FAQ

Q: Does Hyundai still make the Azera?

A: Hyundai does still make the Azera, and the vehicle is currently in its sixth generation of production. However, the Azera has not been available in North America since the 2015 model year—largely due to the popularity of the Hyundai Sonata in the United States.

Q: What kind of car is a Hyundai Azera?

A: The Hyundai Azera is a full-size, four-door sedan that offers seating for up to five people.

Q: What kind of mileage does the Hyundai Azera get?

A: Fuel economy for the Hyundai Azera varies based on model year, trim, and engine configuration. For example, the 2014 Azera base trim with 3.3L V6 engine and automatic transmission gets an EPA-estimated 23 mpg combined (19 city and 28 highway).1

Q: Is the Hyundai Azera front-wheel drive?

A: Yes, all model years and trim levels of the Hyundai Azera are available solely with front-wheel drive. All-wheel and four-wheel drive have never been offered on any model year of the Azera.

Hyundai Azera Trim Configurations

The Hyundai Azera has been offered in just two trim configurations for many years: A Base and Limited trim. The following feature descriptions are based on the model year when the Azera was last sold in North America, which was 2015.

• Heated mirrors

• Dual-zone climate control

• Leather upholstery

• Eight-inch touchscreen interface

Hyundai Azera Limited

• Panoramic sunroof

• Rear parking sensors

• Lane-departure and forward-collision warning systems

• Ambient cabin lighting

Hyundai Azera vs. Other Cars

As a full-sized sedan, the Hyundai Azera has had its fair share of competitors over the years. Explore a few more similar cars to the Azera below:

Hyundai Sonata

The Hyundai Sonata has been advertised as a midsize sedan—and while it does offer seating for up to five passengers (like the Azera), it is noticeably smaller. The 2015 Sonata, however, does come with more trim options (five plus a hybrid, to be exact). The 2015 Azera comes standard with more features than the Sonata and also has a more powerful engine. In the 2015 Azera, for example, a 3.3L V6 engine comes standard. This is compared to the 2015 Sonata's base four-cylinder engine (though a 2.0L turbocharged option is available).

The Sonata does get slightly better fuel economy; in the 2015 Sonata base trim with standard 2.6L engine, the EPA estimate is 28 mpg combined, compared to just 23 mpg combined in the 2015 Azera base trim with 3.3L V6 engine.1

Toyota Avalon

The Toyota Avalon is another contender in the full-size sedan segment, offering spacious seating for up to five passengers and plenty of standard features. In its 2015 model year, it also comes with a 3.5L V6 engine that is more powerful than the Azera's 3.3L V6, though not by much. Drivers may also enjoy that the Avalon comes with more trim configurations, including the XLE, XLE Premium, XLE Touring, Limited, and XLE Touring Sport.

The 2015 Avalon gets slightly better fuel economy than the 2015 Azera, with an EPA-estimated 24 mpg combined in its base trim with 3.5L V6 engine.1

2015 Honda Accord

Another midsize sedan, the Honda Accord offers seating for up to five passengers and is a popular choice among those looking for excellent standard features and a smooth ride. The 2015 Accord is also available in two body styles, including a coupe and a sedan. On top of this, it comes in five trim levels and also comes standard with a 3.5L V6, similar to the 2015 Azera's base 3.3L V6 engine.

The Accord's smaller size also allows for a slightly better fuel economy than the Azera, with the 2015 Accord base trim with 3.5L V6 engine getting an EPA-estimated 25 mpg combined.1

best handling car

for the money paid no car can rival this one in its handling and performance.

2008 Hyundai Azera Limited

This car rides wonderfully. I read several reviews that stated that the tires that come on it (Michelins) are loud and allow a lot of road noise in the cabin. In my experience, it has been quite the opposite: I don't hear any road noise. The car is solidly built and well insulated. Prior to owning this, I had a Toyota Camry, and while it is a good car, the heat will literally run you out of it...even on a low setting. The heat setting in the Azera is very comfortable. The bells and whistles found in the Azera rival those found in much more expensive sedans.
