2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Chad Morris - Cloverdale, IN 10/17/2016

Very comfortable and dependable with driver and passengers needs in mind

Ton of luxury, good MPG, and fun to drive

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Ken McCormack - Spring Valley, CA 02/06/2016

I have the diesel and find that it has a ton of power and torque and still gets 24 MPG in the city and 32 on the highway. It is luxurious yet is very happy on the freeway and off road too. I am a photographer and had been operating out of a Ford Escape; too small and not enough off road worthiness. I love the Jeep!

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overview

First released in 1993, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has remained a staple of the Jeep brand for more than two decades. Currently in its fourth generation of production, the Jeep Grand Cherokee is a popular SUV for those who want the size and features of an SUV combined with the ruggedness of a sportier vehicle. More than 183,000 2014 Grand Cherokees were sold in the United States alone, with most of them still on the road today. This vehicle serves as a great family vehicle with excellent safety ratings, yet boasts a sleek and stylish design that anybody can appreciate. And with five different trim options, there's a Grand Cherokee for everyone.

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee History

Most would agree that the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee experienced some of the most significant upgrades and changes in the model's 24-year history. Specifically, this model year saw upgrades in

  • transmission (eight-speed automatic)
  • engine options
  • exterior design
  • interior features, including an info-tainment system

The year 2014 also saw the addition of a new trim level, the premium Summit model, as well as the inclusion of an innovative Forward Collision Warning system.

Like previous generations of the Grand Cherokee, this model year also continued utilizing a steel unibody, although the suspension was updated to a four-wheel independent suspension that would allow for better overall handling.

How It Drives

The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee really shines on the highway, where its electric-assisted steering features kick in and do their best work. Speed demons will enjoy the quick acceleration that propels the Grand Cherokee from 0 to 60 mph in less than five seconds. And with plenty of ground clearance, great traction, and dedicated off-road technology, drivers also tend to be impressed when they take this SUV off the beaten path. The additional Track mode feature also makes for easier maneuverability on rugged terrain by automatically sending added torque to rear wheels as needed.

Still, despite the fact that the design of the 2014 model is sleeker and more aerodynamic than years past, its overall boxy shape and large side mirrors still create a rather noticeable amount of wind noise - especially on the freeway.

Used 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Value

With five different trim options, including the Altitude, Laredo, Limited, Summit, and SRT8, used prices on the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee will vary greatly depending on your trim level and included features. It is worth noting that the rear-wheel drive options will be significantly cheaper than the four-wheel drive counterparts, but those who plan on using the vehicle in off-road conditions or in winter road conditions would be well-served to spend the extra money on the 4WD option.

Design & Performance

Overall, the performance of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee rivals many of its competitors, including the more expensive BMW X5 M. When compared to similar SUVs such as the Toyota 4Runner and the Nissan Pathfinder, the Grand Cherokee has a higher-end appearance and more upscale feel that many will appreciate. Still, it is worth noting that this SUV:

  • may be more noisy while idling than competitors'
  • comes with fewer standard features

For example, if you want any upgrades, such as larger 20-inch wheels, blind-spot monitoring, or adaptive cruise control, you will need to purchase at least the Limited or Overland trim. The Laredo, unfortunately, does not come with many standard features aside from keyless ignition/entry, five-inch touch-screen info-tainment system, and USB port/AUX port.

Still, if you don't mind spending a few thousand dollars extra, the features that come along with higher trim levels may be worth it to you.

Powertrain & Engine

Under the hood, the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee boasts a standard 3.6L V6 engine with 290 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. This engine is standard on the Laredo trim, but you can upgrade to two other engine options with the Limited, Overland, and Summit models: a 5.7L V8 or a turbo-charged 3.0L diesel V6. For most drivers, the standard 3.6L V6 engine will be plenty.

For Grand Cherokees with a four-wheel drive feature, there are three options: single-speed, light-duty, and Quadra-Trac II with two-speed transfer case. These features, in addition to adaptive air suspension, allow for a smoother ride that adjusts to the terrain.

Body Style & Interior Comfort

Compared to previous model years, the 2014 Grand Cherokee was revamped with a sleek, seven-slot, grilled, new front bumper cover and new headlights.

Interior features include:

  • LCD instrument panel
  • redesigned center panel
  • leather-wrapped steering wheel
  • innovative UConnect system (on select trims)
