I would not recommend it because it has a lot of major items which fail on these cars. I thought that I was safe with the manual trans as I was staying away from the CVT. Nope, third gear kills itself every 30k miles. The CarMax warranty covered the first one (it was bad when I bought it and the sales manager Tony was PERFECT about it - a real class act in after-sale service) but I will be on the hook for the next one. It is powerful enough to be fun to drive (this is the SR Turbo trim with the 1.6turbo and the 6spd manual), it has TONS of room for a compact car, it looks wicked, and I WANT so badly to love it. But, I know that it is going to give me trouble down the road as soon as that trans goes again. I didn't read all the facebook and forum posts about it until after my purchase - that part was my fault. But, it is a proven issue.

Pros

Power: It has nice, smooth power, which comes on decently early and builds through to near-redline.
Interior Space: great use of space and general availability of space for a compact car.
Value: this is a lot of car for the money, and well-featured.

Cons

Reliability: you can't get a good transmission in them anymore,
Value: replacing transmissions every 30k-50k is not economical.
Weather Versatility: this thing hydroplanes worse than any small car i've ever had (and have had several). it may be the garbage tires that CarMax fitted, or it may be the car itself. We will see that when they finish dying.

it’s good on gas, it’s not super sluggish when put into sports mode, unlike what other reviews on the car say. It’s super comfortable, it’s heating and cooling are great. There are only two things that I wish it had and those are a rear windshield wiper and an upgraded audio system. The sound system lacks low end audio frequencies and is very sterile. The head unit also does not have a mids control within its equalizer. The head unit is also fairly quiet, even at 30 (which is the loudest it can go without distorting), I’ve seen children’s toys with better frequency response and amplitude. But despite that, the audio system and the lack of a rear windshield wiper are my biggest complaints.

Pros

Fuel Economy: I get an average of about 35mpg within the city and 46mpg on the highway.
Cargo Space: it has a lot more cargo space than it seems.
Power: it’s not the fastest, but it isn’t a complete slug.

Cons

Technology and Entertainment: The Bluetooth is nice for hand free calling, however, the sound system is not loud enough and it lacks bass response.
Visibility: The lack of a rear windshield wiper makes it harder to drive in rainy or snowy weather. However, it is not the biggest flaw.

My last car was getting about 20 mpg in the city. This car is getting well over 30 just in the city! I have heard bad things about the CVT type transmission it has. It is quite different from the older type transmission and it takes a little to get used to. But I'm not planning on any 0-60 test times. I have not had any problems so far. Now I see many Nissan Sentras driving around. They are pretty nice little cars. Very satisfied!

Pros

Fuel Economy: At these gas prices I'm not too sad to fill it up.

Cons

Power: It takes a while to get used to the CVT transmission. But if you drive "normal" it's awesome. It's a great car for normal use, not smoking the tires.
