About the 2015 Subaru Outback

Vehicle Summary

Are you in the market for an SUV that has just enough room, is ready to run off the beaten path, and has all the tech toys needed to keep in touch with your world? The 2015 Subaru Outback is a midsize crossover designed for your active lifestyle. Two rows of seats provide space for up to five while the rear split bench can fold away when you are packing up for the big weekend. Its 2.5L BOXER engine delivers 175 hp that makes driving through morning traffic a breeze. USB ports, a touchscreen infotainment center, and a roof rack work together to make escaping the daily grind a snap. Traction control, hill-hold, and a rear vision camera provide the extra capability for a fun and incident-free ride to the mountains or the lake. There is even an extra auxiliary 12-volt outlet in the back to plug in accessories when you are parked beyond the edge of civilization.

Generation Overview

The 2015 Subaru Outback is the debut model year for the fifth generation of this crossover SUV that has been a hallmark of the Subaru brand since 1995. It is available with two engine packages beginning with the 2.5L four-cylinder BOXER engine that earns a respectable 175 hp while delivering an EPA-estimated 33 mpg highway with its continuously variable transmission.1 There is also a 3.6L horizontally-opposed six-cylinder option banging out 256 hp paired with a high-torque CVT with manual mode and paddle shifters. The symmetrical all-wheel drive appears on every vehicle so you can take your ride on your weekend explorations. Its 73.3 cubic feet of cargo space with the back seat folded down offers enough room for the coolers, tents, and backpacks without cramping your style.

The 2015 Outback offers four trims ready to take you out of town in comfort, starting with the base 2.5i that sports manual cloth seats, a Bluetooth® hands-free calling system, air conditioning, steel wheels, and roof rails. For an upgraded driver experience, look to the 2.5i Premium with a seven-inch touchscreen with dual USB ports, alloy wheels, fog lamps, heated seats and side mirrors, and automatic climate control. The Limited trim line is found on both engine options and adds a 576-watt Harman/Kardon® sound system, blind spot detection, a power liftgate with height memory, and heated second row seats. Dual exhaust and high-intensity discharge headlights are included with the 3.6L package.

If you imagine piloting your Outback with the roof open to the wide-open sky, there is a power sunroof package that includes a universal garage opener transceiver. The Eyesight® driver assist package adds adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and a pre-collision braking system. The available navigation package also includes a SiriusXM® satellite radio with available traffic and weather information.2
