Generation Overview

The 2013 Toyota Rav4 marks the first year of the redesigned fourth generation model. The 2013 Rav4 breaks from established tradition by ditching the previous generation’s side-opening rear door and door-mounted spare tire (when purchased new) for a rear liftgate, bringing it in line with other vehicles in its class. The 2013 model also drops the previous generation’s optional V6 engine along with the long wheelbase variant. The sole 2.5L four-cylinder engine puts out a respectable 176 hp and 172 lb-ft of torque through a six-speed automatic transmission. The 2013 Toyota Rav4 comes standard with front-wheel drive and an automatic limited-slip differential, with all-wheel drive as an option.

When it comes to trim levels, the 2013 Toyota Rav4 keeps things simple with just three to choose from: the base LE, mid-level XLE and top-tier Limited. The LE comes well-equipped with cruise control, cloth seats, remote keyless entry and projector-beam headlights. Moving up to the XLE gives you dual-zone climate control, a bolstered six-way driver’s seat and upgraded infotainment system with available navigation. The Limited goes all-out with SofTex-trimmed seats, leather trim on the steering wheel and shift lever and 11 JBL® GreenEdge speakers plus amplifier.

The 2013 Toyota Rav4 also comes in electric form, equipped with a lithium-ion battery and a powerful AC motor that puts out 154 total hp. The 2013 Toyota Rav4 EV has an EPA-estimated range of 103 miles on a full charge.3

3Range figures are based on EPA estimates for when vehicle sold as new and assume a full battery charge. Range will vary based on things like battery age, vehicle condition and history, driving and charging habits, accessory use, and driving conditions. Battery capacity may decrease with time and use. 2013 Rav 4

- Kevin Warner, 2013 Toyota RAV4

good car at a fair price

The car is reliable, it handles well and maintenance is minimal. The only problem I need to address is the gas mileage. I come from driving a Prius 38-40 mpg to 23 mpg but this to be expected. I also have a 2008 Rav 4 that my wife drives and it gets 28 mpg. It seems the more gadgets you have on the car, the lower the gas mileage. Otherwise, it's a great vehicle.
