Generation Overview

Known as the New Compact Sedan during development, the sixth generation of the Volkswagen Jetta moved the sedan from the premium compact sedan market to the compact sedan market, a move that many reviewers criticized, citing the cost-saving cuts that had taken place in the model during Volkswagen's push to reach 800,000 sales in North America by 2018. It shared the platform with the Golf, but no longer shared any of its body panels. Initially offered with a 2.5L five-cylinder engine and a 2.0L turbo diesel, the manufacturer shifted over time to 1.4L inline-four, 1.8L inline-four and 2.0L inline-four turbo engines following the emissions scandal with the 2.0L TDI turbo diesel engine.

- Jason Perez, 2017 Volkswagen Jetta

Great car for the price!

As efficient as you can get in a non-electric or hybrid. Zippy ride. Not a lot of frills but the Bluetooth, USB, etc. all work great for hands-free and the ride is smooth. This model is simple but really handy in traffic and running errands.

Pros

  • Fuel Economy:
  • Value:
  • Ride and Handling:

Cons

  • Dashboard: If you like a dashboard with tons of features, this is not the car for you.

- James G, 2017 Volkswagen Jetta

Carmax came through!!!

I have LOVED my Jetta!!! It has good pick-up, handles well, and makes getting to work in the morning a bit more fun (since it's a manual) :-) AND when a few minor issues were found after I purchased the vehicle, Carmax scheduled the necessary appointments to fix the problems, free of charge. Thank you!!!

Pros

  • Ride and Handling: It responds very well to my movements.
  • Seat Comfort: The built-in lumbar support lever is very helpful for me.

Cons

  • Interior Space: In the morning, I move the visor to the side in order to block the sun and it doesn't cover the entire width of the window ... so I use my arm/hand as well. Not a big deal, but a con.
