The release of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta marked the debut of this compact sedan's seventh generation of production. Perhaps the most notable difference between the 2019 Jetta and its previous generation is size; specifically, the 2019 Jetta debuted with a 1.3-inch longer wheelbase than its 2018 counterpart. It is also nearly an inch wider than the sixth-generation Jetta, offering more cabin and cargo space for you and your passengers.
For the 2019 model year, the Jetta also received some other upgrades that included standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration and a 6.5-inch infotainment interface. The SEL Premium was also introduced as the Jetta's range-topping trim for 2019.
2019 Volkswagen Jetta Engine Options
Under the hood, every front-wheel-drive 2019 Jetta receives a capable turbocharged 1.4L four-cylinder engine at 147 hp. On the base S trim, a six-speed manual transmission is standard. On every other trim, this engine is paired to an eight-speed automatic.
2019 Volkswagen Jetta Interior
The five-passenger 2019 Jetta offers a spacious cabin, thanks to its longer wheelbase and wider frame than previous models. In terms of trunk space, you can enjoy 14.1 cubic feet; the trunk is also designed with a wide and low opening to make for easier hauling of gear in and out. The rear seats also fold to accommodate more stuff when you need the extra space.
A console under the front-seat armrest provides a place for you to stow away small items, and the door pockets are large enough to hold water bottles and other accessories.

Reviews for 2019 Volkswagen Jetta
great car but…
All VW cars - I’ve owned four now - are sturdy and reliable. once you’ve owned a German car of any kind, you’ll never buy an Asian or American car again.
- Power: turbocharged 4 cylinder
- Seat Comfort: VW needs to work on their seats. From top model to lowest, the seats are hard, poorly shaped, and just cheap. I survive by putting a Purple seat cushion on mine. I shouldn’t have to
Love my Jetta R-Line
Drives smooth, gets great gas mileage, handles easily, and has been tremendous already on a couple road trips.
- Ride and Handling: Such a smooth ride. Handles easily and isn't jerking when turning/switching lanes.
- Fuel Economy: Gets about 35-40 miles to the gallon if not driving aggressively.
- Interior Space: Love the leather interior and all the leg room inside the car. Been a very comfortable car to drive longer periods of time in.
Great features, smooth ride, great on gas. Great sound system, very user friendly controls. I always feel like I’m driving a luxury vehicle. Only negatives I can think of is maintenance costs a bit more since it is a german made car (think bmw or mercedes).
- Fuel Economy: Great mileage. I’m used driving a car that needed to be filled once a week. Now I only fill up every 2.5 weeks.
- Cost to Maintain: It’s a german made car. So maintenance costs are slightly higher than your typical car.
