2019 Audi A8 gets a complete redesign with fresh styling
Audi gave its flagship A8 sedan a full makeover for 2019, including design cues that riff on both the previous generation and the Prologue concept car that debuted at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show. The turbocharged V6 engine is also new, combining with a mild hybrid system for 335 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. A 460-hp, 487 lb-ft twin-turbo V8 (also paired with the mild hybrid system) is available. Passengers will be thankful for the standard adjustable air suspension that absorbs bumps and dips in the road.
Audi upgraded the technology and interior for this new generation, a welcome change that spruces up the interior and creates a better experience overall. On top of that, the German brand generously upholstered the cabin in high-quality materials and leather, each stitch precisely crafted. For even more opulence, the available Luxury package brings a synthetic suede headliner and even more leather-wrapped interior surfaces along with ambient lighting, and more.

What We Like
Technology: Inside, the Virtual Cockpit (Audi’s driver information display) and two large screens dominate the cabin. Audi ditched the controller knob with the refresh, switching to touchscreen only, enhanced with an outstanding voice control system. It strikes an impressive visual, even if the technology can be somewhat difficult to navigate.
Comfort: Choosing an upgrade package adds massage and ventilation to passengers even in the back seat, a nice touch of luxury. In terms of ride quality, the A8 shines with a suspension that easily absorbs most bumps in the road. The A8 is nearly silent on a smooth road, while wind noise intrudes only on less-than-stellar routes.
Interior: Backseat passengers will appreciate the Executive Rear Comfort package, which slides the front passenger-side seat forward to make room for a footrest behind it. Legroom, headroom, and shoulder room are all impressive in the long-body A8, making the cabin feel even larger than it is. High-quality materials are used throughout, and German precision is evident in the fit and finish.
What Needs Improvement
Utility: For such a large sedan, it’s sorely lacking in cargo space. The trunk is adequate at 12.5 cubic feet, and it’s probably good for a couple of large suitcases but not much more. Interior storage space in the 2019 A8 is a disappointment. The door pockets are on the small side and a wireless charger hogs a fair amount of space in the console. Minimalists will love it; the rest of us, not so much.
