1. Improved powertrains 

The BMW i3 debuts in 2017 with enhanced electric driving capabilities thanks to updated powertrain and battery options. The base level is now called the 60Ah and features a 170-hp electric motor and a 22-kilowatt-hour battery that provides an EPA-estimated 81 miles of range on a full charge.

Climbing to the Base trim, the 2017 BMW i3 uses the same electric motor and a 33-kWh battery for an EPA-estimated 114-mile range on a full charge, which is ideal for longer trips. The 2017 model also features a REX version with a 0.6-L two-cylinder gasoline generator that can travel an EPA-estimated 180 miles on a full charge and a full tank of gas.
