The 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 offers a glimpse of future sedans
The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is the company's first electric sedan. It is roughly the size of the gas-powered Hyundai Sonata and is slightly longer than the electric Ioniq 5 SUV, with which it shares numerous parts. The Ioniq 6 competes with electric sedans such as the BMW i4, Polestar 2, and Tesla Model 3.
The Ioniq 6's driving range varies based on the trim level and whether it is equipped with all-wheel drive. On the base SE Standard Range trim level, you can expect to travel an EPA-estimated 240 miles on a single charge. The rear-wheel-drive SE trim gets a larger battery and has the most range of the lineup with an estimated 361 miles. Choosing an all-wheel-drive model or a higher trim with larger wheels will cut about 12% from the estimated range. Range figures are based on EPA estimates for when vehicle sold as new and assume a full battery charge. Range will vary based on things like battery age, vehicle condition and history, driving and charging habits, accessory use, and driving conditions. Battery capacity may decrease with time and use. See fueleconomy.gov for more info.
Notable features of the Ioniq 6 include a quiet interior, impressive range, and a comfortable ride. Possible deal breakers include a small cargo area, a navigation system that doesn't point out chargers along a route, and limited rear visibility.

What We Like
Great drivability: You'll be hard-pressed to find anything as well-rounded for your day-to-day commute. The Ioniq 6's regenerative braking and throttle response feel instantly intuitive, and it is pretty easy to maintain speed with the one-pedal driving mode. And there's plenty of power when you need to merge or pass. The efficient Eco mode is very usable because it doesn't leave the vehicle feeling too sluggish.
Ride comfort: If you drive the Ioniq 6 back-to-back with the popular Tesla Model 3, you’ll likely find that the Hyundai is the clear winner in terms of comfort. The suspension not only has enough give to absorb road imperfections but also keeps the Ioniq 6 planted enough to handle sharp turns on winding roads.
Serene cabin: In a way, the comfortable suspension helps contribute to an overall serene driving experience. While all-electric cars tend to be quiet thanks to the lack of engine noise, the Ioniq 6 feels especially serene, and the supremely quiet cabin combines with the comfortable suspension to provide a near-luxury experience. It feels solidly built in all regards.
What Needs Improvement
Storage space: On paper, the Ioniq 6 has a significantly smaller cargo area than its main competitor, the Tesla Model 3. The rear seatbacks fold down for extra storage, but the opening is narrow, which means bulkier items may not fit, although items like skis, a snowboard, or golf clubs should be fine. Still, it’s possible to fit a couple of large pieces of luggage along with a duffel bag in the trunk, which means it should be accommodating for most tasks.
