The Infiniti QX50 is the luxury brand’s smallest and most affordable SUV
The 2023 Infiniti QX50 is positioned below the brand’s larger and more expensive three-row QX60 SUV. As Infiniti’s smallest and most affordable sport ute, the QX50 has commendable levels of passenger space and cargo volume. Under the hood is a turbocharged four-cylinder paired to a continuously variable automatic (CVT) and a choice of front- or all-wheel drive (AWD). The QX50 has more than enough power to get to freeway speeds easily, and the EPA-estimated 25 mpg combined city/highway average is on par with competitors like the BMW X3, Genesis GV70, and Acura RDX. Fuel economy figures are based on EPA estimates for when vehicle sold as new. Fuel economy may vary for reasons like driving conditions and vehicle history. Unless specified, figures are for vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission. See fueleconomy.gov.
Unfortunately, the QX50 doesn’t remain comfortable over different road surfaces, and the transmission feels more like something out of an economy car than a luxury SUV. The infotainment system is also very outdated and detracts from the otherwise roomy and well-equipped cabin. Standard features on the 2023 QX50 include wireless smartphone connectivity, wireless device charging, satellite radio, four USB ports, and a six-speaker stereo.

What We Like
Plentiful features: The QX50 has a lot of standard features its competitors, especially European brands, consider options. It means that even if you choose a base trim you’re likely to get the luxury and tech features you want in this compact five-seat SUV.
Cabin room and cargo volume: Behind the split-folding rear seatback is 31.4 cubic feet of cargo space; that’s nearly 40 grocery bags of stuff. This is a strong figure and it can be doubled to more than 65 cubic feet once the rear seat is folded down.
Quiet cabin: On the move the QX50 has a hushed interior, especially during highway driving. The 268-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder offers decent pep without getting too loud during hard acceleration.
What Needs Improvement
Infotainment update needed: Yes, there are many standard tech touches, but the dual-screen infotainment system is way behind the times and in need of replacement. Specifically, the layout and menus are confusing in practice.
