Numerous updates keep the 2018 Infiniti QX80 competitive
The 2018 Infiniti QX80 is a three-row full-size luxury SUV with seating for up to eight people. It supplies between 16.6 cubic feet and 95.1 cubic feet of cargo space.
Like many of its rivals, the 2018 QX80 has a V8 engine. The Infiniti’s 5.6-liter V8 makes 400 horsepower, comes with rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive (4WD), and can tow 8,500 pounds, when properly equipped. Fuel economy estimates are 15-16 mpg in combined driving, with 4WD models consuming more gas. Fuel economy figures are based on EPA estimates for when vehicle sold as new. Fuel economy may vary for reasons like driving conditions and vehicle history. Unless specified, figures are for vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission. See fueleconomy.gov.
For the 2018 model year, the QX80 gets a substantial refresh including new styling, a revised and quieter interior, updated technology, and suspension changes to improve the ride. Unfortunately, the 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system does not offer Apple CarPlay® or Android Auto™. However, connected services and a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot are available at extra cost. Wi-Fi hotspots require a data plan to activate and may also require a compatible device. See the owner's manual or manufacturer website for more information.
Driver-assistance technology is optional, so some QX80s don’t have the basics such as forward collision warning or automatic emergency braking. In addition, the available adaptive cruise control cannot bring the QX80 to a complete stop (it works down to 1 mph).

What We Like
Driving character: Infiniti infuses the QX80 with a rewarding driving character. In addition to its powerful engine and quick acceleration, an optional body motion control system helps the heavy SUV feel more stable in curves and corners. The QX80 also has a standard self-leveling rear suspension, light-effort steering for easier maneuverability around town, and capable and confidence-inspiring brakes. This year, revised suspension tuning improves the ride, but if you get a QX80 with the optional 22-inch wheels, you’ll feel more of the bumps in the road.
Towing capacity: One of the main reasons to consider a full-size SUV is for towing capacity. When it is properly equipped, the QX80 can handle up to 8,500 pounds of trailer.
This is better than some rivals but not quite as good as others. However, though the rating isn’t class-leading, it is competitive.Off-roading capability: The Infiniti QX80 is based on an SUV sold in global markets as the Nissan Patrol. The Patrol is known for its off-roading capabilities, and while the Infiniti emphasizes luxury over rugged capability, when the going gets tough, the QX80 has more off-roading talent than some competitors. However, just as you want to avoid the 22-inch wheels if a comfortable ride on the pavement is a priority, you’ll wish to skip the upgrade if you plan to head off the pavement.
What Needs Improvement
Infotainment system: Though you can pair your smartphone to the Infiniti QX80’s Bluetooth® connection to make and receive calls and stream music, this luxury SUV does not support Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. In addition, while the QX80 offers access to connected services and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot (both require a subscription),
the native voice recognition technology is dissatisfying to use.Shop with your budget in mind
