The 2022 Lucid Air is a long-distance runner among luxury electric sedans
The Air is the first car from Lucid, a relatively new California-based electric vehicle manufacturer. The Air is a high-end luxury sedan that competes with other EVs such as the BMW i7, Mercedes-Benz EQS sedan, and Tesla Model S. The 2022 model was the first year of production for the Air, the only vehicle in Lucid's lineup at the time.
The Lucid Air came in a number of configurations that affected the range of the vehicle. On the lower end, there was the Grand Touring trim with 21-inch wheels, which has an EPA-estimated range of 469 miles. The long-distance runner for 2022 was the Dream Edition Range with 19-inch wheels and an EPA-estimated range of up to 520 miles. Range figures are based on EPA estimates for when vehicle sold as new and assume a full battery charge. Range will vary based on things like battery age, vehicle condition and history, driving and charging habits, accessory use, and driving conditions. Battery capacity may decrease with time and use. See fueleconomy.gov for more info.
Overall, we liked the Air's roomy interior, long range, and ultra-quick acceleration. During its long-term test, the Edmunds team noted some growing pains—the Air's software was occasionally buggy and the team had a few issues with an inoperative door handle. That said, this was a sample size of one, so your results may vary.

What We Like
Long battery range: We tested a 2022 Lucid Air Grand Touring trim with 19-inch wheels and were able to go 455 miles before charging. This fell short of the EPA-estimated 516 miles
but was still impressive given that not many EVs can come close to that figure. Even less efficient Air trims, with larger wheels and different electric motors, offer between 384 and 469 miles of estimated range.Excellent storage space: The Air's front trunk is larger than its competitors' and the rear trunk offers a wide opening to accommodate large items. While the Air isn't a hatchback like the Mercedes-Benz EQS or Porsche Taycan, its rear seats do fold down to allow more flexibility when carrying bulky cargo.
Attention grabber: Let's be real with each other for a moment. People buy expensive luxury sedans because they want to be seen and enjoy the attention. The Lucid Air not only looks the part, but it also has a laundry list of features that will be the centerpiece of many conversations in the years to come.
What Needs Improvement
Complex software: Lucid suffers the same rookie automaker quirks that have plagued early products from Tesla, Rivian, and other EV startups. The Air's tech interface at times has been slow to respond to commands, unintuitive, and buggy. That said, the advantage of these software-based vehicles is that many issues can and have been remedied via over-the-air updates.
