The Air is the first vehicle from Lucid, an American electric vehicle manufacturer. It is a high-end luxury sedan that competes with other EVs such as the BMW i7, Mercedes-Benz EQS sedan, and Tesla Model S. The 2023 model marked the Air's second year of production. It added a few new trims, plus an ultra-high-performance Sapphire model.
The driving range of the Air varies depending on its trim and wheel size. On the low end, there's the Pure trim with 20-inch wheels, which has an EPA-estimated range of 384 miles. The range champ is the Grand Touring with 19-inch wheels, which has an estimated range of up to 516 miles. Range figures are based on EPA estimates for when vehicle sold as new and assume a full battery charge. Range will vary based on things like battery age, vehicle condition and history, driving and charging habits, accessory use, and driving conditions. Battery capacity may decrease with time and use. See fueleconomy.gov for more info.
The Air has a spacious interior, excellent cruising range, and ultra-quick acceleration. During its long-term test, the Edmunds team noted some growing pains, as the Air's software was occasionally buggy and the build quality wasn't quite what you'd expect for a vehicle in this price range.

What We Like
Long range: Edmunds tested a 2022 Lucid Air Grand Touring trim with 19-inch wheels and it had a strong showing of 438 miles. The result was short of the EPA-estimated 516 miles
, but 438 miles is still impressive given that few EVs on the road can even come close. Less efficient trims with larger wheels still offer between 384 and 469 miles of EPA-estimated range.Excellent cargo space: The Air has a larger front trunk than its competitors, and its rear trunk is deep and opens wide to easily accommodate large items. While the Air isn't a hatchback like the Mercedes-Benz EQS or Porsche Taycan, the rear seats do fold down to allow more flexibility for carrying items of varying sizes.
Great presence: People buy expensive luxury sedans because they want to be seen and enjoy the attention. The Lucid Air delivers on this front because it looks like nothing else on the road. Its futuristic looks, high-tech features, and long range will be the centerpiece of many conversations in the years to come.
What Needs Improvement
Buggy software: New car companies frequently need a while to sort out both hardware and software issues. The Lucid Air's operating system was initially slow to boot up, wasn't always intuitive, and would occasionally glitch when in use in Edmunds' testing. But the good news about these software-based vehicles is that many of their issues can and have been remedied via over-the-air updates.
