A complete redesign makes the 2022 Mercedes-Benz C300 an even more accomplished luxury car

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz C300 ushers in new styling, an improved powertrain, and an elegantly designed cabin. Mercedes made certain the interior has much of the same look and feel of the brand’s range-topping sedan, the S-Class. A tablet-like infotainment screen sprouts from the middle of the dashboard and the cabin exudes an air of refinement.

Fit and finish is excellent, though more space in the second row for taller adults would be welcome. Available in three trims—Premium, Exclusive, and Pinnacle—the C300 comes standard with an 11.9-inch touchscreen, a digital gauge cluster, wireless smartphone connectivity, voice recognition, and onboard Wi-Fi hot spot. It also includes driver-assist features like blind-spot warning, Safe Exit Assist , and automatic high-beam headlights. Powering the C300 is a punchy and efficient mild hybrid turbocharged four-cylinder that sends power to the rear wheels via a nine-speed automatic. Acceleration is strong, as is the C300’s EPA-estimated combined 29 mpg fuel economy figure. Fuel economy figures are based on EPA estimates for when vehicle sold as new. Fuel economy may vary for reasons like driving conditions and vehicle history. Unless specified, figures are for vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission. See fueleconomy.gov. All-wheel drive is optional. Coupe and convertible versions are available, though they’re based on the previous C300 platform.

5 reasons to buy the 2022 Mercedes-Benz C300

What We Like

Understated design: The C300 has an attractive exterior that doesn’t go overboard with details. If you prefer a slightly tougher-looking luxury sedan, available AMG-designed exterior touches include 18-inch wheels and a hunkered-down sport suspension.

Superb cabin quality: When it comes to small luxury cars, the C300 easily has one of the most elegant cabins. It looks a cut above many of this Mercedes’ competition thanks to touches like ambient lighting, standard synthetic leather seating, and a power sunroof.

Performance: The new 255-hp mild hybrid turbo-four delivers spirited performance and solid fuel economy figures. In a mix of city and highway driving, the C300 sedan gets an EPA-estimated combined average of 29 mpg.

What Needs Improvement

Second-row headroom and legroom: While it’s not a penalty box, the second row is snug if taller adults have to spend much time back there. A little extra headroom or legroom would have been appreciated with this complete redesign of Mercedes’ compact luxury sedan.
