The 2023 Mercedes-Benz C300 delivers the power and refinement expected of a Mercedes luxury sedan
The 2023 Mercedes-Benz C300 isn’t the least expensive compact luxury sedan, but it’s certainly one of the best. Competing against the likes of the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4, and Genesis GV70, the C300 excels in terms of its cabin quality, onboard technology, and balance of performance and fuel economy. Its infotainment system stands out for being one of the best you’ll find in any luxury vehicle.
Available in rear- or all-wheel-drive format, the C300 is motivated by a 255-horsepower mild hybrid four-cylinder paired with an impeccably smooth nine-speed transmission. Acceleration is strong, if not exactly overwhelming, and the EPA-estimated combined 29 mpg fuel economy is impressive. Fuel economy figures are based on EPA estimates for when vehicle sold as new. Fuel economy may vary for reasons like driving conditions and vehicle history. Unless specified, figures are for vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission. See fueleconomy.gov.
After a complete redesign for the 2022 model year, the 2023 C300 range sees the arrival of the AMG C43, a sport-themed variant that employs a 402-hp mild hybrid four-cylinder engine. A coupe and convertible version of the C300 are also offered, though they’re based on the previous generation of the C300 sedan.

What We Like
Interior quality: Step inside and you immediately know why the C300 carries a premium price tag. The quality of the trim is excellent, as is the fit and finish. Seat comfort is another plus point and even the trunk has thoughtfully designed hidden hinges so as not to inadvertently crush shopping bags or luggage.
Power and fuel economy: It might not sound earth-shattering in terms of total output, but the 255-hp turbo-four in the C300 is smooth and efficient, and it zips this sedan down the road with ease. And for those who want faster 0-60 mph times, there is now the option of the AMG C43.
Infotainment system: The infotainment system in the C300 takes a little practice to master, but once you do it's incredibly user-friendly in how it operates. It also has a wide roster of handy voice commands and a navigation system that’s highly detailed with crystal-clear commands.
What Needs Improvement
Touch-sensitive steering wheel controls: There are so many things to praise about the C300’s cabin tech, but the touch-sensitive controls on the steering wheel aren’t one of them. They’re awkward to use and a poor replacement for the tactile buttons offered in older models.
