The Mitsubishi Mirage is a subcompact hatchback that is known for its affordability and its excellent fuel economy. The trade-off is that superior fuel economy means very little engine power, and affordability means a less comfortable interior. The Mirage is one of the last true ultra-economy cars on the market. Mitsubishi last updated the Mirage in 2019, adding some current driver-assistance technology and a contemporary front end. As a result, the 2022 Mirage looks up-to-date and offers a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports both Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay®.

2022 is the last year in which Mitsubishi offered a manual transmission in the Mirage. So if you want to shift your own gears, the 2022 Mirage is the one for you. Also, 2022 is the first year for the Black Edition, which gives the Mirage a little more style.

What We Like

Affordable car: The 2022 Mitsubishi Mirage is one of the most affordable vehicles on the market. If you need a reliable car on the strictest budget, the Mirage offers some of the most wallet-friendly prices with low mileage and newer model years.

Ride quality: The Mirage has a surprisingly comfortable ride around town, bucking the trend for small, inexpensive cars. We are impressed by the way this little car sails over humps and bumps, rarely upsetting passengers..

Fuel economy: According to the EPA, the 2022 Mitsubishi Mirage returns 33 mpg in the city and 41 mpg on the highway with a manual transmission, or up to 36 mpg in the city and 43 mpg on the highway when equipped with the continuously variable automatic transmission.

This makes the Mirage one of the most fuel-efficient gas-powered economy cars on the market.

What Needs Improvement

Interior noise and comfort: To get the low price point and high fuel economy, the 2022 Mitsubishi Mirage doesn’t have much insulation. That means there’s a lot of road noise and engine noise in the cabin. Also, the cabin tends to be very basic and not very comfortable.
