5 reasons to buy the 2020 Nissan Armada

1. A powerful V8 engine

If you're shopping for a full-size SUV that can handle hefty towing and hauling, the 2020 Armada has the powertrain performance you're looking for. Equipped with a 390-hp, 5.6L Endurance® V8 engine, and a Direct Injection Gasoline fuel delivery system, the Armada can take on the big stuff with relative ease. When properly equipped, it has an estimated towing capacity of 8,500 pounds with the V8. What does that look like in real terms? You and your RV on the adventure of a lifetime.

2. The Platinum Reserve trim

If you want to impress family and friends, or simply spoil yourself as the driver-in-charge, the 2020 Platinum Reserve trim has plush finishing and exclusive styling throughout the cabin. Seating seven in total, the second-row captain's chairs share a padded center console. The dual seatback entertainment screens will please friends and fussy teens alike. Premium two-tone leather upholstery is a trim exclusive, as are the 22-inch alloy wheels. This is an upscale offering that elevates every journey.

3. Comfortable seating

Happy passengers make any journey more enjoyable for you as the driver. The Armada is built for family and friends with comfort touches that please everyone. For treasured grandparents, those optional second-row captain's seats will have them feeling like royalty.

Road trips with your kids? They'll love the available rear row entertainment system; two seatback monitors with system DVD, and two sets of wireless headphones with audio modes for gaming, music, or cinematic sounds. Front-row passengers enjoy heated seats (all trims), while younger passengers will enjoy the feeling of near-independence in the third row.

4. Easy in, easy out

Lots of passengers and stops doesn't have to be a headache. How about a tall SUV with wide door openings, helpful side steps with available illumination, and standard grab handles to steady the young and old? The 2020 Armada has it all, and more.

All trims are also fitted with the Rear Door Alert function; an unobtrusive reminder for any rear seat items you may have forgotten when locking up. Cargo is not forgotten either; for those bags and boxes that accompany every school run and commute, a power liftgate is standard from the SL trim and above.

5. Intelligent Around View® Monitor

Imagine nailing that parallel park first time. Or smoothly reversing into your garage with pinpoint accuracy. You can ace them every time with the 2020 Armada. A standard feature for the SL trim and above, the Intelligent Around View monitor gives you a 360-degree view of your vehicle and its surroundings.

Four wide-angle cameras keep you on track, chiming an alert if any moving obstacles cross your path as you make your maneuvers. For tight turning circles, and parking spots that risk your paintwork, this nifty feature has got you covered.

Interior details

The 2020 Nissan Armada is a full-size SUV, with seating for eight across three rows, with the option to upgrade the second-row bench to captain's chairs, taking capacity down to seven. Cloth upholstery and heated front seats are both standard features, with leather upholstery featuring on upper trims.

Seat comfort is well-executed, with 41.9-inches of legroom upfront and 41.0-inches of legroom for second-row passengers. Younger family members, or perhaps a four-legged friend, will be comfortable with the 28.4-inches of third-row legroom.

Storage through the cabin is well-appointed. In addition to the large glove box up front and center console, the Armada has 12 beverage holders across its three rows. Cargo storage is flexible to your needs, with 16.5 cu-ft behind the third row. This expands up to 95.4 cu-ft behind the front row if maximum hauling is called for.

Child seat details

The 2020 Armada has two complete sets of LATCH fixtures (two lower anchors, and an upper tether) for the second-row outboard seats, and one tether anchor each for the second-row center seat (eight-seater bench only) and the third-row bench seat.

Lower anchors are easy to identify, while upper tethers are found to the rear of the seatbacks. Thanks to some excellent legroom in the first and second rows, all types of child seats can be fitted, with little to no impact on front row passengers.

This full-size SUV has just one engine choice, a 5.6L V8 with seven-speed automatic transmission, capable of producing 390-horsepower and 394 lb-ft of torque. Rear-wheel drive is standard, with four-wheel drive an option for all 2020 trims. When properly equipped, it can tow up to an estimated 8,500 pounds.

The 2020 2WD models achieve an EPA-estimated 16 mpg combined, while the AWD versions deliver an EPA-estimated 15 mpg combined. According to the manufacturer, the 2020 Armada, when new, has an estimated top speed of 120 mph.

Year comparisons

2003–2015 Nissan Armada (first generation)

Major changes for the first generation Armada include the addition of standard Bluetooth functionality and satellite radio on all trims for the 2013 model year. A 2015 refresh brought in additional exterior color choices and new optional package features.

2017–2022 Nissan Armada (second generation)

Taking a break in 2016, the second-generation Armada made its debut in 2017. This ground-up redesign includes new exterior and interior styling, a more powerful engine, and a host of new standard features. The following year, a Platinum Reserve trim level was introduced. For the 2019 model year, the Armada gained more standard driver assistance aids.

A mid-cycle refresh in 2021 updated the exterior styling and revised the trim line-up to include a new base S trim. A 12.3-inch touchscreen and smartphone connectivity became new standard features.
