The 2013 Ram 2500 gets a refresh
A few years after dropping the Dodge name to become its own brand, Ram refreshed the heavy-duty Ram 2500 in a big way. The truck received a new look inside and out, a more powerful optional diesel engine, a higher max towing capacity (around 18,000 pounds, when properly equipped), and new touchscreen infotainment.Various factors may impact towing capacity, including weight of passengers, cargo, and options/accessories. Buyers had a choice of either a 6-foot 4-inch or 8-foot bed.
The 2013 Ram 2500 remains a capable and—by the standards of heavy-duty trucks— comfortable vehicle with some nice comfort and utility-oriented options. However, it lacks quite a few technology features compared to more recent models. A rearview camera wasn’t standard equipment, and don’t expect to find any driver aids or phone connectivity features beyond Bluetooth®.

What We Like
Strong optional diesel engine: For 2013, Ram introduced a new turbocharged diesel engine that produced 385 horsepower and 800 lb-ft of torque. It results in a big boost to its towing numbers, bumping them up to around 18,000 pounds when properly equipped.
Excellent comfort: Compared to other heavy-duty trucks at the time, the Ram 2500 offered a less harsh unladen ride, a quieter cabin, and plush seats. The Ram could also be equipped with tons of optional upgrades to maximize comfort, including heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, power-adjustable pedals, and more.
Off-road-ready Power Wagon: If you don’t want to DIY a heavy-duty off-road truck, the Power Wagon comes with pretty much all the gear you need installed. Ram extensively modified the suspension and 4x4 system, and even added a power winch and a stadium’s-worth of extra lights.
What needs improvement
Limited technology features: Bluetooth, a rearview camera, and touchscreen infotainment were available for the 2013 Ram 2500, but only on select trim levels. Driver aids, smartphone integration, front parking sensors, and other features that are common now weren’t available.
